SANTO DOMINGO. - The downpours of the last few weeks increased the amount of rainwater that enter the country’s dams, for which their full level expected to be reached during the next few days signals the end of the seasonal drought.

Frank Rodriguez, the director of the dams and canals agency (INDRHI), affirmed Wednesday that the recent rains have begun to fill the dams at Hatillo, Rincon and the Tavera-Bao complex.

The official, speaking during the weekly meetings convened since the start of the drought late November, said predictions of continuing precipitations at least until next week are encouraging.

Rodriguez said the downpours could improve conditions still more nationwide, adding that the rains have most benefited the usually arid Northwest.

With all these dams in the D.R., one would think there should be enough electricity for everyone.
