Power plant Laesa at Pimentel
Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic’s power companies grouped in ADIE Thursday stated their concern over a debt of more than US$600 million and the Government’s delays in payment, as many as four months in arrears.
“In the same manner the increase in fuel prices concerns us, situation that combined with deficiencies in payment would seriously affect the Dominican electrical market,” ADIE said in a document.
It said the Government must make an effort to reduce the accumulated debt of US$603.4 million thus far, as in its view would be the only guarantee to secure the electrical system’s short term sustainability, in addition to paving the way for the generating sector’s long term investment plans.
Moreover ADIE again urged the Government to abide by the terms in the agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) regarding the electrical sector, which had been complied with until March.

Fat chance they will get paid. There is not enough money to go around considering you now have an embassy in Kakaistan and India.

What's even funnier than being owed CASH, is the fact that leo borrowed this money TWO years ago to satisfy that debt and still no one mentions the whereabouts of the funds in question.....

Not in the liberal state of New York with 51% and growing willing to overlook, as far as civil suits ??? as an adult one should know better. The coming forward after the fact, and full copies of texting, it was gradual from hello goodbye to "check this out, can you see it" I don't think so.
In California more then 90% of criminal offenders are repeat offenders the revolving door, so much so we have a 3 strikes your out law [I don't mean baseball either].

riosm, please that pales in comparison to the transparently corrupt, entitlement mentality DR.
"The arrest of military and police officials has become commonplace, and in many occasion are simply placed on retirement and not charged with any crime."
Now what bland comparison can you make to relate to the US?
Dominicans were bred to be subservient and think nothing of this type of crap.

That's because you only compare the U.S to the DR [apple & oranges] top 5% of the power elite and fail to compare the DR to other Latin American Countries.
Not all Dominicans are corrupt [I'm not], but then again it only serves to justify your hate towards Dominicans.
Money and power does have it's negative effects on people they go hand 'n' hand. Good thing is in the DR we hear about it and it's no secret to all.
Arrested / retired is a start and I will admit its a refection of the top. The DR has come a long way and has a long way to go.
The U.S as a world leader has it's own share of corruption approx. 85% is done by it's citizens scamming Gov. programs you watch as the economy worsens.
I can see more scams, rip-offs on the horizon but not to worry we'll add just more Welfare, food stamps, section 8 and plenty more entitlements planned to ease the economic pain, all is good.
The DR rates higher then most 3rd world countries.

Pay the electric companies what's owed them, for that is correct thing to do.
Maybe if people were forced to rely on velas for luz, then maybe they'll finally rise against this criminal government and all botelleros.

Glomarexplorer,
That's why if I lived in the DR I would do everything in my power to become totally self sufficient and produce as much of my own fruits, vegetables, meat and with the new technology....power.
A lesson our people still have has not learned, I say go back to the barter system. Heck my Father and uncles did it in the 1940's with their neighbors life was hard but then again life is harder under the current conditions.

If they are demanding this then there must be a reason behind it they want to save the electrical supply for the people.
