Santo Domingo.- Industry and Commerce minister Manuel Garcia affirmed Thursday the country will likely resume meat and processed meat exports to the United States this year, because the Government recently published a norm on those exports.
He said the provision paves the way to reenter the international market, “from which we had retired in the 1980s from the fall in international prices and the change in regulations.”
He said Presidential Decree 329-10 issued May 17 contains the national norm on the production and handling of meats and related products, with the names of the agencies in charge of inspection and certifications; the requirements for slaughterhouse and processing plants, as well as details that compare the national norms and procedures with those in effect in the United States and the other developed countries.
Garcia affirmed that the implementation of the norm benefits a sector with exporting potential.

Would never eat there beef again. 1st.. a good piece of beef needs some fat... Dominican cattle must be anorexic.... the meat is tuff and you can chew it like bubble gum. Also, most of the time when I see dominican beef it isn't refrigerated and there are flies everywhere..................

What for? DR needs more exports but I don't think Cattle should be a big part of it. I guess there could be a low end of the market DR could possibly fill. To discerning customers it won't be too appealing. Let's face it as a food agro exporter DR probably blew its load already a long time ago.

Exports are the way forward. Agro-business is one of DR's untapped potential as it possess some of the most productive land in the world, and certainly in the Caribbean. The Cibao valley should be the bread basket of the Caribbean. I very much would like to see the DR finally make its potential Real! Attention to quality and professionalism are paramount in securing market penetration across the Caribbean. Also, trade barriers need to be opened, and the US and Europe need to pressure all the entities along this process.

You've got to be brimming with blind pride to rejoice at prospect of buying Dominican beef at local supermarket in US.
As for me, I want locally raised and grain-fed beef; nothing else would do. No thanks.

In addition to undocumented migration interdiction operations, Mohawk’s crew also partnered with the Royal Bahamas Defence Force. A boarding team from Mohawk along with a Bahamian ship rider discovered more than 5,000 pounds of lobster in the hold of a Dominican fishing vessel that had been observed fishing illegally in Bahamian waters. Mohawk’s boarding team remained aboard the fishing vessel for three days until a Bahamian ship could get on scene to seize the vessel and take it along with the poachers to Nassau, Bahamas, for prosecution

You guys are crazy if you think DR is going to compete with Chile as an agro exporter. They are lighthyears ahead and have everything set up already. It could happen and DR could make a small dent but it won't be easy. We simply don't have the sophistication yet...
