SANTO DOMINGO. – The International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) representative in the country affirmed Friday that although the Government decisions to adopt a tax reform is painful, it’s necessary and didn’t have any other alternative to prevent financial imbalance.

Alejandro Santos said the negotiations have greatly advanced and are nearly concluded, for which the letter of intent could be drafted in the next few days.

When journalists asked if the Government was pressed to adopt the measure, the IMF officer reiterated that there was no alternative, since the fall in revenues has been 3 percent of the gross domestic product in the last three years.

Santos, who invited everybody to reflect on what would happen if we were to find ourselves in a serious financing problem, noted that those negotiations will allow the Government to issue an external bond as a source of financing.

The key words to all that blabber are in the last sentence:

" will allow the Government to issue an external bond as a source of financing".

Means that after the IMF agreement is put in place, more bond issues and foreign loans will follow, and now our children and grandchildren will be more in hock to finance the metro, and all the fancy travels of LF.

Borrowing from Visa to pay off MasterCard. Nice! The sh*t is gonna hit the fan around 2014, under the PRD of course, then come 2016 Leonel is gonna look like a saviour. Same thing happend the last time, Leonel hit the iceburg but the ship sunk while Hippo was at the helm, same will happen again, the iceberg is hit, the ship is sinking, and it's gonna sink when PRD takes over.

Sure, give these thieves more money to squander.

No sense in trying to eliminate their transparent corruption, nepotism and shear stupidity.

These people at the IMF must be getting kickbacks.

www.SyndicatedNews.NET was the only lone voice as an Internet news organization that announced that Julio C. Estrella had suffered a massive coronary infarct on day "one" of the meetings related to this tax package. Estrella was deceased before the ambulance reached the hospital. Upon calling its Dominican Republic correspondent for verification / confirmation of Estrella's death, the website's Florida based editor featured Estrella's photograph along with his death announcement. It is now June 4 and still no meainstream news organizations have even mentioned Estrella's passing.

Instead, the Tax Package being forced on the Dominican Republic, along with Estrella's replacement, continue forward without skipping a beat and not even mentioning the fact that Estrella passed away.

the headline is erroneous. the IMF does not defend the tax package. the IMF ordered it.

this is the reason we need education and we need it yesterday.
the dr governments since the 1970's to one degree or another has stpipped their people of their basic dignity, they deprived them of a formal education and never allowed them to develop anywhere near their full potential. and as the world has become hyperconnected, it's become obvious to many just how far behind they where, to the rest of the world.
most domincans are treated as children by their autocrats and as very backward's by the rest of the world.
guess many as my self have a deep humiliation.

in the states their are over 1 1/2 million students in kinderarten though grade 12 taking online courses, in the state of idaho requirements in high school students take four or more online courses. every student is provided with a lap top, as well as personalized after-school computer drills in math and english.
in china the kids go to school at 7am until 10pm at night {this maybe over doing it] but they want to come out of the poverty they where in.
its never too late, but some holes are deeper then others, and 80%of the people in the dr. are deep into a hugh hole
they need to start the climb out out of this hole to reach the top.

danny00, sadly, just having 800,000 will not get you a medallion. you have to join a long waiting list.
