New Delhi.- Dominican Republic and Kyrgyzstan agreed to establish diplomatic ties in New Delhi today, in yet another ambitious step by the government of the tiny Caribbean nation.
In addition to forging bilateral relations with Central Asian nations, Santo Domingo has established contacts with several countries in the continent of Africa, and even Southeast Asia.
In the ceremony held in the Kirgiz Embassy in India, the two countries’ ambassadors in India stated their nations’ desire to bolster bilateral ties.
Quoted by Efe, Dominican ambassador Hans Dannenberg said with the establishment of international relations with Kyrgyzstan, "our formalization of relations with the countries that conform the region of Asia Central is complete."
The diplomat affirmed that the pact is of great importance for Dominican Republic, because the zone is considered “one of the most important regions given its wealth in minerals and alternative energies."

, Some years ago,I was teaching english to a young man whose father was an ambassador in a large latin country but as he approached retirement age , he was granted a post as ambassador toone of these small Baltic or Central Asian areas . The father never went there, or maybe once every year or so but drew his salary ..So many of these diplomatic posts need to be eliminated so there is only a Dominican Ambassador for all central Asia and all Eastern Europe .

This really is a very funny situation ,,,This country ,Kyrgyzstan , is the second poorest country in the former Sovit block and is now the poorest country in central Asia , has been selected as one of most corrupt countries in the world, does not have an elected government and is more than 80% muslim ..
I am just wondering what the attraction is for the DR .

Walterpolo. ...paired cities between the two countries. ....graftlandia, fraudistan, corruptlandia, impoverishmentistan, .... what is really bold about this has to be the openness that two dictatorships demonstrate by hoping to work together. .... it could be worse and leo decides he must cosy up with chavy and fidelity before they both die. ..

OMG you guys are hilarious! Joking aside, I must say Leonel must be a business genius!!
I see a great potential and benefit for DR to have diplomatic ties with small poor countries in that distant area.
We all know the humongous problem DR faces with our neighbors in the west. We could immensely benefit from using the farmers from these small countries (they have a big farming community, but the cold and dry environment is against it, so food is kind of limited).
We need to stop bringing Haitians to DR to farm; instead we could bring farmers from these former Soviet Union and Easter European small countries.
It could be a win win situation. These small countries could benefit by sending their farmers to DR for temp work, when they are done with the farming season they could enjoy the tropical beaches and weather they could never afford in their homeland. Their country could also benefit from getting tropical fruits like bananas and the costly pineapples.
From: Dominican Republic, Civil Rights and Peace Activist for Our Dominican People
Again, We must start bringing in farmers from these regions and from other Latin American countries so we could stop the madness that is going on.
We get their labor, they get to enjoy tropical beaches vacation (spending some money to benefit DR), and reduced tropical fruits and vegetables products. Win, win.
