New Delhi.- Dominican Republic and Kazakhstan on Tuesday signed an agreement in the Indian capital which marks the start of diplomatic relations between both countries.
In the accord signed in the Kazak embassy in New Delhi, the ambassadors of both countries in India said the two nations agree "to develop and strengthen the bows of friendship and cooperation."
Hans Dannenberg, Dominican ambassador in India, told Efe that the beginning of diplomatic ties with Kazakhstan forms part of the Caribbean country’s policy “of diversifying its diplomatic ties with nations worldwide," and not just the West.
Kazakhstan ambassador in India is Doulat Kuanyshev affirmed that his country is a close partner economically, because it sends a large number of tourists to Dominican Republic via Moscow.
Dannenberg also stressed that the Kazaks "are big importers of Dominican tobacco."

this is good news for once, i love it when leo makes these type of relations happen, he steals alot of money thats for sure but it opens up jobs for the average dominicans.

You know, international relationships are great, however there is also something called waste. I bet you the Dominican embassy in India will be staff with a bunch of people sitting around doing very little and receiving big paychecks.
I was in Israel recently and I just happened to walk by the Dominican Embassy in Tel Aviv. There are some Dominicans just sitting around not doing much at all. How much business can the DR and India really be doing to justify a full diplomatic apparatus in country? I call some of this waste.

Am I missing something but Kazakhstan is not part of India.
How is this part of India. If it was india then the DR diplomatic office would be in Mumbai.

Why DR needs embassy w/ ambassador in Kazakhstan??? and not a diplomatic/business attache/ represent???
(maybe its Kazakhstan tourism?... business?... Maybe its a Shish kabob or Tartar)
well, another ambassador of BS

They probably used India since India is close to Kazakhstan and the DR already has an emabassy in India.
So the fact that it was done in India, makes sense.

Wow, this is a remarkable story to hear that Kazakhstan is a trading partner.
What's next naming the Capital a sister city with Astana?
Now that the Mongol Hordes are arriving in the Caribbean; Let's celebrate the demise of the U.S.S. R. and welcome the new (2 decades old) Perestroika. .

In 2007, Kazakhstan's parliament passed a law granting President Nursultan Nazarbayev lifetime powers and privileges, immunity from criminal prosecution, and influence over domestic and foreign policy.
Over the course of his twenty years in power, Nazarbayev has repeatedly censored the press through arbitrary use of "privacy" laws, and refused demands that the governors of Kazakhstan's 14 provinces be elected, rather than appointed by the president.

As far as I know, Leo has not engaged in a diplomatic mission to Australia, and neither Australia or Dominican Republic have embassies or consulates in the other country.
Australia's GDP is:
- Total $1,235 billion
- Per capita $55,589
Kazakhstan's GDP is:
- Total $138 billion
- Per capita $8,883
So what gives? Why would poor, oppressed Kazakhstanis in central Asia spend a fortune on a holiday in the Dominican Republic, and Australians not?

Grullone,
What Eastern European things does DR have? An education system is not one of them - Kazakhstan (the world's 9th largest country) in in Central Asia, not Eastern Europe. Xenophobia is not an Eastern European trait either.

WalterPolo,
Yes there are many beautiful places to visit between Australia and DR, and the cost of fuel, hence long-haul flights, is becoming very expensive. However DR has interesting things worth experiencing, when you have done the rest and DR women are unique.

Grullone,
Yes, Kazakhstan was part of the former Soviet Union, but it has never been part of Eastern Europe, geographically, culturally or ethnically. Regardless I very much doubt that all Croatians, Bulgarians and Russians in Punta Cana and Cabarete are thugs, any more than the local Dominicans are. Are you suggesting that anyone from the former Soviet Union is a thug? I think you will find that much of the North Coast is already owned by Russians, who paid good money for it, rather than by squatting.
