Santo Domingo. – President Leonel Fernandez Thursday cut the ribbon for the Santo Domingo-Santiago Electric Highway and two mega-substations in the community El Naranjo, at a total cost of more than 124 million euros.

The 345 kilowatt power line grid is 130 kilometers long, supported by 325 high resistance towers links the Cibao region with the rest of the country, and designed to supply stable energy in enough volume to contribute to the region’s development.

In his keynote speech, State-owned Power Lines Company president Julian Santana said the work will also contribute raise the voltage by 30% in the entire zone and prevent energy losses.

For his part, Celso Marranzini, CEO of the State-owned Power Companies called the Highway a landmark in the national power system’s history, since it’s the first time that voltage level is reached.

From: Dominican Republic, I dislike all politicians and their afiliated parties... "I simply say it AS IT IS!!"
That's what's scary?

Where the hell are they getting all this money from?

Either something bigger than we know is taking place behind scenes or we are borrowing up the wazoo?

JPD if I had to guess it's all borrowed money. Leonel probably figures let me do as much as I can before I leave. Let me make sure I get the face time and press for it. Hipolito, the PRD, and the country will get saddled with all the debt meanwhile Leonel and PLD will get the accolades. It's smart politically but it's the type of thing that is disastrous to a country.
