Santo Domingo.- President Leonel Fernandez on Sunday defended his Administration’s management amid the global economic crisis, affirming that the country has kept stability and foreign investors’ confidence, recognized by the International Monetary Fund and other credit entities.

“This administration has had to sail amid stormy seas, amid high swells and infuriated waters, within an economic internal crisis billed by the PRD (opposition party), and another external one; and in spite of that, the national ship has evaded all dangers, it has forded all the difficulties, and currently exhibits one of the highest confidence index in the international markets of all the world economies,” the Head of State said in a televised speech before the ruling PLD party’s midlevel and senior members.

He said amid the dark global situation and of uncertainty, Dominican Republic emerged as the Latin America and Caribbean country with the highest economic growth in 2009, of 3.5%, which reached 7.8% in 2010.

Anti-impact measures

Fernandez affirmed that faced with the impact of the world crisis, his Administration extended the energy and food subsidies, incorporating 770,427 families to the Bonogas (cooking gas) program, increased the beneficiaries of the Solidarity program to160,300 in 2008,  and the affiliation of 780,000 people to the subsidized Family Health Insurance.

Government spending

As to the handling of taxpayers’ money, the chief executive said under the direction  the International Monetary Fund, government spending was cut by RD$40 billion from July to December 2010, and 20 billion more in the course of this year. “This is the Administration which has assumed the handling of the government spending with the greatest responsibility.”

I beleive Leonel should stick his nose out into the real world and see what is really happening in the DR.
High unemplyement, high inflation, actually it is more expensive to live in the Dr than in any other country.

Get that head out of your ass LF. You cannot see the forest for the trees.

You have gas prices, sanitation, transparent corruption, nepotism, electrical sector problems. Anyone of them has the ability to sink your country in a matter of days.

last night performing in front of the inmates at the PLD prison compound was Rodney Dangerfield, sending the audience of criminals and their guests into spirals of uncontrollable laughter, with anedotes on the health of the Dominican economy, corruption, and other subjects of comic relief. Some of the reviews, "Absolutely hysterical, the funniest guy on earth." "I laughed so hard, almost peed in my pants", and "it was great, where does this guy get his material, fab!"

"economic stability remains"

Figures.

The poor are still poor, the filthy rich are still filthy rich and there is not any sign of change at the horizon.

Maybe it's just me but whenever I see a photo of LF, he always seems to have his eyes only half open. Perhaps that explains his view of this country.

All he did was tell us who to blame for our problems.

He might be right about some of them. .

BUT

He neglected to mention that in SEVEN years he has not been able to resolve ANYTHING and we are much worse off than before.

Good point!!!

This people believe by putting Hipolito back he is going to solve the problem. If Leo is irrelevant and incompetent, Hipolito is a lunatic and a circus quack clown, who only knows to sow Yuca and Plantains, and by the way – his harvest always spoils. So, wake up from the deep slumber and make sure you are ready for the economical disaster to come – if the right choice is not made. I do not have sympathy for any political party, however of all of them, the one I believe to be the most prepared to face the music, it’s still the PLD. No other party can keep control of the situation. Unless Guillermo Moreno can become a miracle make it to the top overnight. We as Dominicans must open our eyes and stop the ignoramus flow through our brains and better start to really think about what’s behind all of it?

Leo’s being puppet by some dark forces we don’t know about. The same will be for any other known individual.....

Cont.....

However, if put some fresh face – it will take the puppet master some time to corrupt the new puppet. So, as I said before fire everybody and put new fresh faces in power. Forget PRD, PLD and any other dysfunctional party. Hipolito is not prepared emotionally, economically, and personally to handle the 21rst century. He is an idiot Jeepers Creepers look like ex-president, who doesn’t have the faintest idea of what’s going on around him.

Please listen to him speak!! Only retarded Dominicans just like him understand what he’s talking about? So, please…do not disgrace DR once again. Remember, what mostly comes out of one’s mouth, it’s exactly what’s in one’s heart? So, make your deductions…Leo has turned horrible, but Hipo is a foretold disaster…

JDP, iguess that what you are saying could mean that there is no hope. Medina would just be a continuance of the horrid governance of Fernandez, so where is the difference?

I rather that than a lunatic with not reasoning whatsoever!!!

Hipolito will re-destroy DR in heartbeat. There are other smart men in the PRD party. Yet, they allow this fat clown to be the presidential candidate. That's a sign he is nothing but a boss, not a leader. He does not and would not care for/about DR past, present, and future. Otherwise tell anything positive he did that stands out today?
