Santo Domingo.- Internal Taxes Agency (DGII) Assistant director Germania Montas announced the start of the 2011 renewal of the license plate stickers for motor vehicles starting today Wednesday, to last until November 11.

DGII Assistant director Germania Montas said to renew their stickers, vehicle owners can go to 288 businesses or 700 windows, and in the Web, and can pay with Visa, MasterCard and American Express.

She said 1.2 million vehicles are expected to renew stickers at a cost of RD$1,200 for those until mode year 2006, and RD$2,200 for of 2007 or newer.

The official said that 90% of the country’s vehicles are 2006 or newer, for which an estimated RD$1.1billion in revenue is expected.

I do support this 100%, but....

No mention of what happens to those who don't comply, like a reminder of fines and or penalty's .

No mention of how this new revenue generated would be spent in the public's best interest, like education.

Am I missing something ? Can some one fill the information gap.

Would it be asking too much if we can at least get a little TRANSPARENCY and ACCOUNTABILITY on this ?

I am surprised to read that 90% of the cars are 2006 or newer. Where? I recently returned and saw many more 1990's and older.

Really? ...you mean "ONLY" 120,000 cars, trucks and SUV's are older?

Another sign of the failure of the education system. For every one newer vehicle I see in Santo Dominigo, I see 5 older ones driving sideways down the road.
