Santo Domingo.- The Minister of Industry and Commerce, Miguel García Arévalo, says that petroleum industry projections show that prices will remain high in the medium to long term. For this reason, he says, the public should buy lower consumption vehicles and change to using natural gas.

García Arévalo said that it was in the Dominican Republic’s interest to change its energy consumption pattern as soon as possible, and on this basis the government is working as fast as possible to ensure there are sufficient supplies of natural gas and alternative energy sources.

“We aim for more than 15,000 vehicles running on natural gas by the end of the year and at the moment we have 2,000”. He criticized the country’s use of high-consumption vehicles.

most of those vehicles belong to the corrupt officials, 70% of the island makes less than 300USD monthly. This makes no sense, so, when oil prices drop, and gas around the world is at a normal value, the dominican government will keep prices at the record high level just to teach the poor and all taxis a lesson......

Leonel must be audited, this con is robbing everyone blind

This is just a con to keep prices high and those in power reap the benefit. As Roberto says it is mainly the corrupt officials who have the gas guzzling vehicles and for sure their petrol is also paid for them so high prices of gas means nothing to them.

"buy lower consumption vehicles and change to using natural gas." Moron.

Get rid of your outrageous import tax that was supposed to be eliminated with DRCAFTA on US cars.

You scum are the only ones that import cars duty free and then you choose the gas guzzlers.

A suggestion would be do not import cars with more than 4 cylinders and existing 6 thru 8 cylinder cars in the country have to pay a marbete renewal double the present rate.
