Washington.- The ambassadors of El Salvador, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic joined Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis today to sign an historic partnership to protect the labor rights of migrant workers from these countries who are employed in the United States.
Consulate officials will work with the Department of Labor, state labor authorities, labor unions, faith leaders and community groups to inform migrant workers about their rights and the resources available if those rights are violated.
“Today, we renew our promise to everyone who does an honest day’s work in America. No matter how you got here or how long you plan to stay, you have rights. You have the right to a safe and healthy workplace and the right to a legal wage,” said Solis, speaking at the signing ceremony today in Washington, D.C.
Quoted by /blog.aflcio.org, the U.S. official added that the partnerships are pledges between the governments to work together to educate migrant workers about their labor rights and prevent abuses in the workplace.
During the past year, Mexico, Nicaragua and Guatemala signed similar pacts.

The yola one-way ticket just went up.
I cannot imagine this applying to illegal workers although trying to get tough with that lot caused havoc in California a few years ago
What's not mentioned is if the immigrant workers are LEGAL or ILLEGAL.....migrant workers meaning ?
Nothing like removing the word "illegal".
Solis is willing to be street pimped just in time for the 2012 election [Latino's are just a token, an ace in the hole] for the U.S Latino support ='s votes.
I wonder will this "migrant workers" be part of Obama's special September campaign speech on unemployment ?
Can they come home and teach the homies how to do it?
Only Haitians work here.
unless you are stinking repubican voting cubano this is ....PURE GUANO!
Washington (CNN) - Key Republican lawmakers joined a growing GOP effort to halt the push for immigration reform, arguing the time is not right to take on the massive and complex issue.
"I'm not sure how you can really justify" trying to tackle immigration reform, said Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Georgia, told CNN's "State of the Union."
"We've got a lot of work left on our plate and we're focusing on financial regulatory reform, and not immigration reform...
"I'm not sure when we will find the time to deal with immigration reform, but it is just not a priority," Chambliss said, adding that "until you have an overall reform package on immigration, it just simply can't be done."
He'll wait until it's close to election then spring a surprise for that 2008 repeat 78% Latino support ='s votes.
His secret weapon, Latino's the "Ace in the hole".
Let's see if he can quiet down the Mexican Prez. regarding the ATF's operation "Fast and furious" under Obama's watch.
Or that long awaited [he has a plan] re-election campaign speech on unemployment this coming Labor day.
What better day then "Labor day" workers of the U.S unite !
