Nicolas Maduro, President Fernandez.
New York.- The government of Venezuela announced Tuesday it will raise the supply of crude to Dominican Republic from 30,000 to 50,000 barrels daily through the Petrocaribe pact, which allows the country to buy oil on credit and with soft interests.
Venezuela Foreign Relations minister Nicolas Maduro delivered the message to president Leonel the Fernandez during a meeting in the New York Palace hotel.
The official, representing president Hugo Chavez the in 66th UN General Assembly, was accompanied by Dominican par Carlos Morales. He said he brought Chavez’s message exclusively to president Leonel Fernandez.
Maduro also told Fernandez that Chavez’s recovery is nearly complete with chemotherapy treatments to counter the cancer that affects him, and that he’s in good spirits.
Morales
“With this president Hugo Chavez not only ratifies Venezuela’s support for Petrocaribe, but also widens the amount of petroleum it provides to the country by around 20,000 barrels daily, because we are currently receiving only 30,000,” Morales said.
He said the Dominican government had sought the increase in Petrocaribe’s quota daily to increase the reserve and deal with higher international crude prices, “not to load the dices against the consumers. More than an increase which we sought was to reach the goal of around 50,000 barrels daily.”

DR would need to get this oil from somewhere regardless and for far less favorable terms. The Petrocaribe pact is a win-win for DR.
From: Dominican Republic, vieja Santo Domingo
yes exactly ,,the Petro caribe pact is a great deal for the DR and even if the price is the same as from elsewhere ,20 years credit at next to no interest is very good ..I just have some suspicion , however, that there may be something that Chavez wants in return for this gesture of good will

", however, that there may be something that Chavez wants in return for this gesture of good will"
He wants influence..fortunetaly DR is in a position to give him as little or as much as they want to in that arena..Venezuelan gun ships won't be docking anytime soon in Dominican waters to extract payment.
From: Iran, DirectorioDominicano.com
Sure this is a win-win situation for the next 20 years, until such time that Vene. wants
a more substantial return on their investment. either way, options are limited.

The deal is very advantageous toward DR! And that's how this issue has to be viewed: Is it a better deal than the alternatives? Show us a better deal to be had before you knock this one down.
50, 000 barrels, 20 years to pay at a lower than market rate interest arrangement! And the DR can pay for it in rice, beans, or sugar!
Nations have interest, not friends.
"Petrocaribe S. A. is a Caribbean oil alliance with Venezuela to purchase oil on conditions of preferential payment. The alliance was launched in June 2005. The payment system allows for a few nations to buy oil on market value but only a certain amount is needed up front; the remainder can be paid through a 25 year financing agreement on 1% interest. The deal allows for the Caribbean nations to purchase up to 185,000 barrels of oil per day on these terms. In addition it allows for nations to pay part of the cost with other products provided to Venezuela, such as bananas, rice, and sugar." Wikipedia

Allow me to be the "fly in the ointment". This is all well and good for the time being. But we need to veer away from dirty, expensive oil and into renewables.
The "Jatropha" plant, for instance is a great source of natural oil that can be refined to produce biodiesel. There are many other sources, such as a certain type of algae and the African palm. This fuel is much better on engines than petrodiesel and is "carbon neutral".
We should strive on becoming energy independent in the coming years. We can tell Chavez to take a hike and save tons of money in the process. This is not only good for our nation, but for the entire planet.

MR CHAVEZ'S OIL WELLS?
MR CHAVEZ after more then 12 years as president of venezuela has SYSTEMATICALLY DISMANTLED THE DEMOCRATIC INSTITUTIONS of VENEZUELA, making himself a populary elected autocrat rather then a DEMOCRAT. he controls the COURTS and the LEGISLATURE, as well as many MUNICIPALITIES, where he was installed his own CAPOS, to run things. many have accused MR. CHAVEZ of installing a MARXIST-COMMUNISTS REGIME in the country.
WATCHDOG TRANSPARENT INTERNATIONAL ranked VENEZUELA among the least TRANSPARENT countries in the WORLD.
