Santo Domingo.- Economy minister Temístocles Montas affirmed Tuesday that “there’s no possibility” that the Government will increase the price of electricity to the population in this electoral process, and that any decision regarding that topic will be up to the authorities who take in office in August, after the May 20 election.
The official said the International Monetary Fund proposal’s to increase the electricity bill gradually is what’s being discussed with that entity and hasn’t allowed the joint debate of the 7th and 8th revision in the two-year standby agreement which concludes February.
Interviewed on Digital 15, Montas said instead of raising the price per kilowatt, increased nearly 20% a year ago, the authorities have been to persist even more in harnessing a good administration of the electricity distributors managed by technicians contracted by the State-owned Power Companies.
“At least in this electoral period there’s no possibility that the electrical bill will be increased. It is a decision of the government of president Leonel Fernandez. That would have to be a decision of the new government,” Montas said.

So Lie-onel Fernandez will leave the hot potato of raising the electricity rates to the next Government
Talk about passing the buck.
In 1999 he passed the buck of the impeding collapse of Baninter to the next government now he repeats his Modus operand of taking the money and running.

Hurricane Ramoncito: how Ramon Baez and his cronies broke the Dominican Republic's largest bank and almost brought down the country
by Doralisa Pilarte
http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0BEK/is_9_11/ai_109178265/"A national economic program he proposed in late 2000 earned him lavish praise from President Mejia. "Risk, and I'm talking about calculated risk, is proper of all business and of any human activity.
Whoever doesn't understand this can't triumph;" Baez said in a 2001 interview in Dominican business magazine Mercado. Although Baez came from wealth--his father co-founded the country's oldest shipping company, Baez & Rannick--Baninter's octopus-like acquisitiveness raised some eyebrows. Speculation about the source of Baez's mountains of cash ran wild. Nobody seems to have considered the more mundane explanation being given today by the Dominican monetary authority: He robbed his own bank."

If there is a change of government they can blame the previous administration when they declare the state of the books is much worse than anticipated. What happens if there is no change of government? They have a mandate for more of the same?

i have no beef with your country. if youlook at my postings, i have NEVER said anything gratuitously disrespectful, except to people who deserve it. i have never called anyone here by demeaning names. what i do is to criticize POLICIES, and Initiatives. when i see boneheaded ideas, i call them, as i see them. whether or not you like it, one of the problems inthis country is that it does not plan to fail, but it fails to plan. too many ideas are enbraced, without thinking them out, carefully. it is all about quick fixes, without considering the adverse externalities. why is it that tourism, that makes up such a large portion of national earnings, done next to nothing towards improving the local people?why is it that a government spends one million dollars on a PARKING LOT for an institute of TERTIARY education, when primary education is in the toilet? if you accept those approaches, be my guest. i still find them to be boneheaded.
