Santo Domingo.- President Leonel Fernandez affirmed last night that the adjustment policies applied in Great Britain and the rest of Europe to cut deficits and pay debts has sparked the social turmoil that stoked the “Occupy Wall Street” movement, and could lead to crisis of democratic governance.

He said the economies which apply adjustment policies and aren’t growing create social inconformity, which simultaneously leads to political confrontation.

In that regard, Fernandez said there’s a need to think about new policies that stimulate spending, but oriented towards productive sectors and infrastructure development. “There’s talk of investment in renewable energy, in fast mass transport and a return to an industrialization phenomenon.”

For the chief executive, the European economic model has always been guided by Germany’s concern with hyperinflation. “It seems to me, let’s say from history, that in the European model it’s always the German concern for hyperinflation and which therefore, if it’s the other way around, which is a stimulus to spending, it’s possible to produce this phenomenon.”

Speaking in a conference on the European Banking Crisis held in the Global Foundation Democracy and Development (Funglode), Fernandez said what prevails is a world of financing. "The fact that the German banks are the main creditors of debts, which seem non-payable, makes them those most interested in pressing the adjustments for them to pay, precisely the Central Bank.”

Leo read last weeks paper again, here's to you leo for keeping up with the news

Fernandez said there’s a need to think about new policies that stimulate spending, but oriented towards productive sectors and infrastructure development............. How about stimulating the bean sector to pay off debt as your initial contract with hugo stated... The dominican rep could be doing a lot better if it weren't for leo participating in the art of SABOTAGE. Every time us dominicans think we have something good, here comes leo with his forked tongue antics.

Is this a way of telling us hard times they-are-a-coming?

When they shut the money tap on account of the Euro crisis and they have to write all those debt refund cheques, I myself foresee some turmoil.

Gret wisdom. UK has just agreed to new high speed train project. Governments must lead the way to renwables, promote healthy green lifestyles. End the bean counter philosophy.

DR could show the way to developing countries led by its great leader.

The Archduke of the Antilles' hyper-inflated mumbo-jumbo rhetoric, is designed to mesmerize everybody within earshot, while helping the main project that he's had ever since, which is me, myself and I. Leonel keeps believing that the masses have never heard about or read, Chomsky, Stiglitz or Pilger, so he keeps plugging his re-invention of capitalism snake oil. For those without a crystal ball to figure out what Leonel is always blabbing about, maybe this link might help out. ;-)

Deschooling is great! Read Illich. Thanks to the intenet formal education is fast becoming irrelevant.
Another field that the DR can show leadership in.
Teachers expressed suprise when I occasionally showed my face in school.
Why empower the tyrants?

Thanks for raising it.

And "whose people" would those be? No member of my immediate family has been on welfare or got "free stuff" from the Government. Perhaps you have me confused with you and your mooching brethren?

Ariel, Nicccccccccccccccccccce........

Finally, governments should inform their electorates explicitly and comprehensively that a few contracts written during the inadvisable “great age” of leverage, debt, and credit entitlements cannot be met, and must be rewritten in a transparent way that strikes a balance between generations, labor and capital, and recipients and taxpayers.
Such policies would allow healthy balance sheets around the world, both public and private, to engage in a pro-growth and pro-jobs process. They require leadership, focus, and education. Absent that, plumbing problems will become more acute, and the repairs more complex and threatening to virtually everyone – including both the “one percenters” and those who worrisomely are struggling at the margins of society.

Most Cubans fancy themselves as the chosen people who came to America with nothing and achieved success in one generation but always fail to acknowledge the Cuban adjustment act. Which was passed before the civil right act of 1965. Never mind wetfoot / dry foot BS still practice today. Let's not talk about the scare face element.
