Santo Domingo.- A cut of around RD$40.0 billion from the original budget to build the Santo Domingo Subway’s second line and nature have delayed the work, Transport Reform Office (OPRET) Assistant director Leonel Carrasco revealed Monday.

He said the cuts from the economic crisis as well rains will lead to a reviewed work calendar, for which Opret decided to accelerate the work in the span between Luperón and Máximo Gomez avenues, to open it to the public by February 27.

Carrasco also announced the construction of various types of stores, so riders can make transfers without having to exit the subway, which in his view places Santo Domingo at the level of any capital in Latin America’s most developed countries.

The official said the tunnel section from Luperón to Gomez is finished, and the rails are already laid, for which the second line needs only the installation of the software and power supply.

He said the stations are nearly finished, some totally such as number 14, which links it to the First Line at the Olympic Center.

BS poltical translation service from josean:

We will spare no resources, from the taxpayers monies of course, to try to hold on to power as we have done very, very well for ourselves, plus we want to try to stay out of jail at all cost!

LOL...... I guess leonel had to think over his ideas to line his pocket, times must be really tough now for looting. The economy was never an issue when it came down to building lee-flee's train set . Like George DoubleYou, leave the head aches for the next president to handle.....I'm out of here anyways...
