Santo Domingo.- The CEO of the State-owned Electric Utility (CDEEE) on Monday said the latest spate of blackouts nationwide is because users don’t the pay for the service, leading to as much as US$50 million per month in losses.
Ruben Bichara said he aims to promote alternative energy projects for users to pay less for power,
Light bill
In that regard the Electricity Superintendence (SE) announced that the bill to consumers will not rise in October, and revealed a RD$1.94 billion subsidy for the sector.
In a press release, the SE said the government’s cumulative electricity subsidy to the power sector from January to October will be more than RD$16.0 billion (US$410 million).

A difficult nut to crack given the many generations of Dominicans that have been conditioned to a "no pay" mentality. Mano fuerte against these anti-modernity forces. Pay your bill= get electricity. No pay= cut off and penalty for restart, if passed a certain amount of time, say one month.
How is that PURPLE privatization thing working out for you Lie-onel; just as shitty as the USELESS METRO,eh!
C'mon Danilo.
Do something that has never been done.
MAKE EVERYONE PAY FOR THEIR ELECTRICITY.
Let me ask...based on the everyday Dominican house I visit...they run a refrigerator, a fan and music (for the few hours a day that the power is on). Who are the REAL thieves?
Precisely, Mike PRECISELY!
"Some" of the "lucky" everyday Dominican House....run a refrigerator, a fan and music.
Many many inland houses ( and certainly the south and mountain region ) lack even these luxury items which they can use during the 3 hours of electricity a day.
