San Pedro de Macorís, Dom. Rep.- President Danilo Medina yesterday asked Dominican entrepreneurs to invest in power plants so the country can have quality energy at reasonable cost to spur production.

"We need the Dominican capital to invest in power plants in the country, so that we can eventually have a balance and some sort of reserve.”

Medina said by having a reserve in energy Dominican Republic can move forward in the process of providing quality energy at a reasonable cost, "said the president.

Project

The new plant will provide 25 megawatts of energy to the national grid and will continue to increase its capacity.

Perhaps I am totally naive on the subject. However, looking simply at the situation, it seems apparent to me that we have a two-part problem:

1) Insufficient generating capacity relative to population size and existing industries.
2) Inability to pay the bills we do incur within our existing electrical energy capacity.

So, please help me understand how expanded capacity will help us eliminate item 2 above?

Personnally, I don't ever see this problem going away,-for various reasons: 1) very large population relative to industial base; 2) mostly a poor country, which is likely to get poorer; 3) pre-programed entitlement mentality; 4) pervasive acceptance that government takes care of everything; 5) corrupt to the core government, military and judicial branches; 5) passive population with pronounced lack of desire for meaningful change; 6) etc., etc.

My house in San jose delas matas has been off the grid for 10yrs now, with a mini low-head turbine and a trench to divert the water and whala, enough power to charge the batteries at night.....

There are mini turbines that can produce enough electricity for 10 homes, someone needs to step in and build these things . The potential in rural areas are endless.
