Santo Domingo.- DT readers are evenly split on the effects the Government’s proposed tax increases will have on the population in general and especially the difference classes.

When asked “Which sector will bear the tax reform’s brunt?  3,051 readers, or 25.28%, responded “The productive sectors; good luck,” as well as “The rich, who’ll gripe either way.

The response “Who cares, I barter for everything,” drew 3,051 votes, also 25.28%.

The response which drew the least votes, “The middle class, as always,” had 2,918 votes, or 24.17% of the readers who took part in the weekly unscientific poll.

I have talked about this before to my friends this is text book economic hitman, this was I actually knew what was going to happen but I thought that the Dominican population would smarten up. NO we did not, we all have our hands out for a botella.
Leonel and the PLD sold a dream and we bought it, hands down they have won this war.
They have made them selves rich and now the country is in total debt, some might say that it isn’t a lot of money but your defending people who robbed the country of billions of dollars.
The problem with Dominicans, online and printed information is that it is all bought bias information that seeks only to protect the rich thieves and miss inform the population

A lot of money has been wasted. Now the potential for austerity measures is to increase the welfare of all as the country moves towards sustainable self-sufficiency. One good start would be to increase the taxes etc. on cars towards Singapore levels , e.g. $150,000 for a medium sedan and double the price of gasoline. The agro sector is jump-started, a good move since world food prices are increasing dramatically.
