Santo Domingo.-  Monday’s violent protests in which people where attacked and properties vandalized around the Barrick Pueblo Viejo gold mine are acts of savagery that seek to jeopardize the peaceful surroundings that should prevail to ensure the country’s economic development, the Canada based company said yesterday.

"In a open criminal attitude they came around the mine to burn vehicles, blocking the road by cutting trees and burning tires in front of a school," said Barrick spokesman Jorge Esteva on the incidents unleashed on the road between the towns of Cotuí and Maimon.

He said a group of unidentified people continue to threaten Barrick’s employees.

Josean democracy is rule by the majority, for the majority. It is not one minority group of ignorant morons attempting to impose their will on others with intimidation, vandalism and violence.

Vivacuba,
Barrick is a publicly-listed company. Why don't you buy shares and join in?

Roy can't majorities be wrong?

Especially when they are manufactured by giving money to "uneducated ignorant morons feral peasants" as you refer to my countrymen/women to vote against their own interests?

Barrick is an infamous international company with an even more infamous history. I don't want to say anything about the ones who brought them in to exploit the gold ... But surely it's not for the benefit of the Dominican people!

Josean, majorities can and often are wrong. For example more people "know" there is a god than those who know there isn't.

Ponce de León was given the assignment to crush the native rebellion on Hispaniola and restore order. De León not only accomplished this, but he proved extremely capable of turning the chaos of the New World wilderness into a profitable enterprise. His expert handling of the situation on Hispaniola won him great favor from his superior, de Ovando, and high marks from high government officials back in Spain.

De León was appointed governor of a significant portion of Hispaniola. He used the conquered natives, the Taínos, both as slaves in farm fields and as labor in gold mining operations. In this time, Ponce de León also found love. He married the daughter of an innkeeper, and they had three daughters and one son.
MAYBE PONCE SHOULD COME BACK AND THEN THE LOCALS CAN GO WORK FOR HIM?
HE WAS A VERY FAIR MAN NO?
