Santo Domingo.- The Economic and Social Council (CES) yesterday asked the Government to trim its planned spending for fiscal year 2013, so instead of allocating RD$469.4 billion, it suggests not to exceed RD$410.0 billion (US$10.5 billion), to avert the growth of the public sector’s deficit.
"The government's economic team has presented a proposal for spending RD$469.4 billion, not including financial applications. This proposal, while containing considerable reductions in spending in various areas of government spending, disproportionate levels remain which generate a significant imbalance between government revenue and spending, "said CES chair monsignor Agripino Nuñez.
After Nuñez’s announcement, Economy minister Temistocles Montas said the government's economic team would meet to discuss the feasibility of the Council’s suggestions, whose results will be disclosed 11am today.
