SANTO DOMINGO.-The government allocated monthly funds to complete the Santo Domingo Metro’s second line and make it operational by year end.
Transport Reform Office Assistant director Leonel Carrasco affirmed that president Danilo Medina makes extraordinary efforts to open the new line despite the current difficult times. "I don’t have the approved amount yet, what’s important is the allocation.
“I can assure you that this decision gave us a break, because we were working slowly and now everything pending has been invigorated," Carrasco said, noting that the plastic “swipe” cards will be changed to magnetic and disposable cardboard, to expedite service.
Stations lack just elevators
Carrasco said some stations just need elevators, termination or details in areas and have received 36 of the 45 cars for the first leg of the second line, from 9 kilometers on the Duarte highway to the bridge La 17.

Happy to know it’s getting finalized and readied to serve us well.
Modernizing our nation is a priority Medina will work hard to realize. I think the next step is to put together trolleys in major cities and construct passenger and freight railroads throughout our nation to facilitate travelling and commerce.
The whole bottom line, as it were, is to minimize our dependence on expensive, imported oil, and instead rapidly multiply the generation of electricity, without burning fossil fuels, to power our economy.
This will be my last post on this site. I’d like to thank Dominican Today for the opportunity to express my thoughts and for putting up with all my nonsense.
I’ll try to keep in touch with the many friends I’ve gained here, via this medium. Au revoir.

Anyone said Santo Domingo is NY? Nope, thus we are going to have a Metro network of 5 lines and one from Haina to Santiago (Villa Altagracia, Bonao, La Vega, Santiago), y si todo GOOD, Puerto Plata. Then the IDEAL would be for Santiago to be a HUB for the entire Cibao...
