Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Government will submit to Congress the tax reform bill by way of the Senate tomorrow, after some changes made on suggestions ??from various productive sectors.
Economy This Minister Temistocles Montas made the announcement Monday night after a meeting of the economic team with president Danilo Medina, who was given the official technicians’ final proposal.
Montas said with the tax reform, the government plans to raise around RD$53.0 billion, or 2.2% of the GDP, but declined to provide details, adding that it will be disclosed when delivered to the Senate1pm Wednesday.
Among the sectors consulted figure alcoholic beverage and tobacco producers, transport unions, and the financial sector, who stated their positions on the reform to the authorities.
Regarding the cuts in government spending, Montas reiterated that the problem of revenue must be solved first.
On Sunday Medina met with transport union leaders Blas Peralta, Juan Hubieres and Antonio Marte, to explain to them why it was necessary to approve the tax reform.
