Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic Hotels and Tourism Association (Asonahores) president Luis Rodriguez Amiama on Monday warned of the risks the proposed tax reform poses to the sector.
He said the effect will be felt in the short term, as higher taxes increase costs, compared to with a tourism product which had already sold for next year.
"The tour package was already sold and the risk is for the marketer, because who’s going to absorb it (the reform’s cost) when the package is already sold?"
He asked how to carry out the commitment to increase the number of tourists visiting the country, when the reform, "what it does is hurt the productive sectors."

"Dominicans love tax when they're on the receiving end,"
