Santo Domingo.- The National Energy Commission (CNE) on Tuesday announced it authorized an Italian company to build the country’s first array of private mini-hydroelectrics, to produce 15 to 17 gigawatts of energy yearly.

CNE president Enrique Martinez said it’s the first permit which the Dominican Government issues to a private company for a power unit under the provisions of Renewable Energy Incentive Law 57-07.

The generator with a 4 MW capacity will be installed in the Central Mountain community of village of Paso Bajito, Jarabacoa and slated to start operations by yearend 2014.

The company EVYP Caribbean will build the facility at a cost of 4.8 million euros.

That's good news for Jarabacoa. My buddiy lives there and brags his electric rate is only about 6 peso /kw while mine is a huge $RD 18.5/kw but on more than off in Samana. He never brings up the fact that his power is off more than it's on and needs a large inverser and a generator to make sure he has power to live.

"Cuba has been doing this since the last century. why have we not sought their expertise? i know. no possibilities for kickbacks." Ha, yes. So profound wisdom and knowledge of the so pure 51 years old communist dicktatorship. Yeap, let's take lessons from them. like also executing political opponents, jailing them, and even staging their murder in a apparent accident with a ghost truck oh sorry no it was a tree. who knows. Anyway there's a saying that what the eye can't see the heart does not feel. let's learn from Cuba how to control the media and God forbid you criticize them like so many people come here to criticize the DR government, all of you would be in jail by now for being enemies of the state. Bunch of hypocrites and pseudo-intellectuals. Go live there if you think is so good.

vacanos, surely a brilliant economist such as yourself knows that one of the characteristics of a recession is idle capacity. so, tell, us, genius one, how does one jumpstart a lagging economy using supply side economic measures. that should be real easy for you. then, you can segue into an answer as to why deficit financing in recessionary times is a bad idea. thanks for your erudite explanations
