SANTO DOMINGO. - President Danilo Medina met with UN Haiti Stabilization Mission (MINUSTAH) representative Mariano Fernandez for one hour Monday, where they discussed issues related to that nation’s reconstruction process.
In a National Palace press conference after the meeting, Fernandez said Medina pledged continued support for Haiti in its process of development and peace.
Fernandez, accompanied by Dominican Foreign Minister Carlos Morales, said he wanted to meet the Dominican President and came to the country to seek his assistance, in the process of that nation’s recovery.
When asked how long MINUSTAH would remain in Haiti, Fernandez said until 2016, for which they are already in the process of training Haiti’s police, with a goal of 15,000 agents to assume control once they leave.

We have a lot of Haitian construction workers doing nothing because of our dire economy, particularly now that president cut funding for many capital projects. The best we can do is send them back to help build up their nation.
