SAN PEDRO, Dominican Republic.- President Danilo Medina today said he’s on the side of the people and that he’s the first person to be affected by the measures in his proposed tax package.
He said he shuffled many possibilities to find a solution to the economic situation he found, but that the tax reform is the only way. "The first one who didn’t want a reform was me, God knows, but there was no alternative."
He said he wants to head a government which keeps its promises, where children have access to education.
Medina spoke during the ribbon cutting for the first phase of an energy park in Punta Garza, in the ??San Pedro de Macoris’ (east) industrial area, with a capacity of 25 megawatts.

Danilo what you need to do is work the same way that the late president Balaguer did where he never barrow money to build anything and instead he work with what was the goverment projected to receive from the taxes and then he submitted the budget and then use the extra income to build homes for poorest, schools and highways. In the last government since Balaguer left office all they have done is barrow money to overpay employees. What don't you set a good exmple and do what the new elected president of France did. Cut the salaries of everybody that makes more than 100,000RD pesos a month by 10,20 and 25%. And also take away all their drivers and per dime that they get every month because in my view public servants should be about serving the people and themselves and if they don't like tell them to take a hike and hire new employees.

With that amount of money the Government could resolve the housing situation of at least 3,000 families, but preferred to give those apartments to people well-off, with good salaries and even homes.
The distribution of the 180 apartments in the Tower El Progreso, between groups of relatives to the former President, Leonel Fernandez, and those close to the Global Foundation, is a fact which must be investigated and punished, if it were found that there has been fraud in the distribution of these public goods.

Every citizen of the Dominican Republic has the right to housing. And if the State supports housing construction it should be done precisely for the poorest sectors country, requiring fewer costs than apartments built for The Progress Towers, which had a cost of 1 billion, 80 million pesos.
With that amount of money the Government could resolve the housing situation of at least 3,000 families, but preferred to give those apartments to people well located, with good salaries and even homes. That is a true injustice. This is not the way to combat poverty. This kind of distribution of public wealth is to the detriment of social equity and all parameters for good governance.
If the Government of Danilo Medina wants to make justice, a measure that could be taken is to retrace the steps of the previous Government with these public properties.

Sanchez raised the need for a renewal of the PLD cadres to get a new impetus and boost to the PLD.

"For the institution function there has to be a sincere renewal" argued the provincial President of the PLD in La Vega, as reported by the communications secretariat of the LDP.
He considered that the stage of the 8th ordinary Congress of the PLD should be used to produce a renewal of cadres and base that imprint dynamism and direction to the peledeista.
"The party has to undergo a structural reform where its structures are subject to the scrutiny of its members and activists," he said.
Sanchez complained bitterly of the treatment being given from the governmental sphere to the cadre and the base of the Dominican Liberation Party.
He cited the case of the vast majority of the Presidents of the municipal committees of the PLD in the province, who are not in the Government structure, and instead they are many people who are that are not PLD.
