Dajabon, DR.– The new Dajabon market on the border with Haiti, inaugurated by Dominican and Haitian authorities this week, will boost trade between the two countries once it starts operating early next month.

According to province governor Esther Ramirez, this work represents the definite takeoff of the province and its inhabitants, and progress towards sustainable development, "because for over 30 years we have been longing for a work of this nature."

"This is a masterpiece that will make history, for it will benefit thousands of Dominicans and our province will grow more, because this is the largest of the 14 markets on the Dominican Republic border area," Ramirez pointed out.

The market, whose facilities were built with a donation of more than RD$278.0 million by the European Union, includes 2,264 internal and external modules, including those built in the site’s esplanade. It will help foster economic development in both  Dajabon and Ouanaminthe (Haitian side).
