Santo Domingo. - President Leonel Fernandez will head the ribbon cutting for the reconstruction of the Montecristi-Dajabón highway, at a cost of more than RD$300.0 million.

The work on the two-lane, 35 kilometer highway which links Montecristi and Dajabón provinces was carried out by the contractor Gil+Gil, and included drainage systems.

The Public Works Ministry was in charge of overseeing the reconstruction.

I like the way they stated the company and the fact that this time it includes drainage......

Who is the G.C( "General Contractor" for those dominicans on the island) ?

So far every construction leads to lee-flea via the little brown rat with no construction experience.

The PURPLE BOYS have done very well for themselves:

Warren Buffet will intiate a take over bid soon!

"Felix Bautista and Associates received contracts for more than US $385 million dollars in Haiti"

"The works are on contracted to two companies Constructora Hadom and Constructora Rofi, that Bautista has admits are his property, and the Builder R.M.N. S.A, where Bolívar Ventura Rodríguez is named as the owner who is linked to Felix Bautista from the first government of President Leonel Fernandez (1996-2000)"

So the shenanigans began in Lie-onel's Early “ Golden DAYS!”

How about YOUR education, Josean!? Have you found money for it? apparently not!...
Since I don't have a formal job, I found the time and money to further my education! I just don't sit around all day complaining about life! there's good and bad in all sorts of things and I give deserving credit when its due! When will you begin to do the same?....You know, life isn't as dire and and depressive as you paint it to be. From your standpoint, I ask,.. is there a bright side to ANYTHING in DR?..Digame usted!

Ron,

Josean still doesn't understand that increasing spending close to 500% can go hand in hand with these other developments.

I suspect that he'll be like many anti-LF people looking astonishing at the modernization and development that is coming into use and will continue to be pumped out in the next two cycles with amazement and wonderment. Still finding ways to say, "it doesn't count for anything"

This road was completely redone about 3 years ago at great expense. The contractor, to save money put down such a thin layer of asphalt that within 3 months the "new improved" road started to deteriorate.

What's in store for us this time?

8.57 mill per km?? is number not a little high for "the reconstruction" of a highway? I'm just asking as it's not a new road that needs major surveying and mass excavation before road works begin. Just asking ...as it said "the reconstruction" ??

From the "Other Government Promises Department":

Thousands of people commuting between Mao in Valverde province and other cities and towns in the northwest were left stranded by bus operators when 36 drivers' unions went on a 24-hour strike to protest the lack of repairs on the highway from Mao to Guayubin to Copey. The government had promised to begin the repairs some time ago. Father Rogelio Cruz will say Mass at the bridge in Cana Chapeton as part of the activities surrounding the strike. The strike affects transport services between Mao, Guayubin, Villa Vasquez, Las Matas de Santa Cruz, Castanuelas and other communities in this major agricultural area.

I love how people complain when the government does something and when they don't do anything then they like it. If hipolito wins then good. You know why? Because many people in the DR need him. He will teach them a good lesson. How can you possibly complain about something like this I don't understand. Yes education needs tons of improvement, but don't roads help that and many more things. Roads improve transportation this then helps people get to places faster maybe school, work, or anything really. And I don't think any pres., during these times, is going to improve education because it won't help them on the contrary, It will make the people smarter and that's something they're afraid of.

Also, if Dominicans want education the first place they should start at is at home not school. The parents are the ones who need to teach their children to behave and to want to progress instead of continuing the same patterns that have been going on for decades. For instance teaching children not to have too many children when they grow up. At least that would be a good lesson for everyone not just in Quisqueya but the whole world. Teaching begins in the home and this is what the country lacks. The biggest lesson though, has to be with greed. Our society is becoming greedier all the time more and more. That's why you have people paying Haitians instead of Dominicans or why Bodegeros will sell one item to someone for a certain price and then to another person a different price. Those are great examples of our biggest flaw.

Thank you, Chris1010!
What all these whiners complaining about the 4% "government-mandate" for education need to understand, as you stated, is that education starts AT HOME and the rest will follow! Sure, if you go to school in a nice facility, have shiny books and fancy computers, those are nice commodities to have but they are not necessary if you have the desire within yourself to get a good education! And again, this ties back to the values instilled to you AT HOME. I attended schools in my childhood that were in dire conditions and lacked many resources that were not available as they were in more affluent areas and guess what? I still managed to learn, get good grades, graduate high school and then college, why? Because I had the desire for a better life and my folks taught me that an education was key in achieving this. El que tiene deseo de progresar lo logra y lo busca sea como sea! Stop blaming the government for the lack of morals and values that starts AT HOME!

Josean, I do understand that, of course, education is extremely important and that we're failing miserably in that department. ..But you don't seem to get it, or are just fixated into a mind-set that does not allow you to ascertain when something actually IS good and beneficial for our nation!?

What is it about your thinking that can only complain and not celebrate? Is it like that with you in real life, always? If so, then you really need to take a good look at yourself and ask, why.!?..

Building a road is not a big accomplishment. This is true and I think we must all understand that, but it's not bad and it does help the people greatly that live in that area. The difference between Leonel and Hipolito is that Leonel is much more modern and actually does something. Look at Hipolito: "Ya llego papa" it sounds like something that the most uneducated person would say. He's a presidential candidate so he should take it seriously and stop being a clown. Although how can he have any education and act seriously if he is a clown or even worse. A person like Hipolito deserves no respect and does not deserve one vote. But again I say, if he is elected president, then I say that is good becaus then I know that the country deserves someone like him. All nations or atleast almost all nations deserve the leaders they have.

Not the All Inclusive Resort METROLANDIA Fantasy that everything is fine and getting better, which many here and in the government try to paint.

I present the alternative view to those Political Pollyanna fantasies; sometimes in a 99 to 1 ratio here at DT. Ron the reality is that essentially in your heart you feel that beyond my rhetorical hyperbole what I say is true and it is very hard for ALL of us to accept the truth. Even the Polls that favor the PLD demonstrate that the majority of the public doesn’t feel things are going well. Omega went off on the Univision reporters because he could not face the reality that the perception of his wealth, was going to revealed as a lie when he was caught leaving in a taxi. That is a very telling statement of the general Dominican psyche, of hiding the reality of the situation with simulation and lies.

Ron the most embarrassing time for me is when non-Dominicans who visit our country and tell me your country is beautiful, the people are extraordinary friendly and helpful, but why is there such a contrast of almost revolting wealth and disparity. Why are the schools and the basic services so bad yet you build luxury towers and (a METRO system, my addition) when there are GLARING social needs and PRIORITIES.
