Santo Domingo.- "The economy marches on a very good path" with inflation around 0.94% at the close of March in keeping with the quarter’s goal of lowering it to around 5% for this year.
Central banker Héctor Valdez Albizu yesterday said the goal of between 5 and 6% for the quarter had been reached, because crude hasn’t had a major impact and farm and food production has been abundantm among others reasons.
The target drawn for the dollar’s exchange rate has been reached, the official said, with the Central Bank’s commitment to avert a depreciation which can become uncontrollable during the electoral period.
Valdez said the economy’s moderate growth falls within the goal of from 4 to 5% by yearend, but closer to 5%.

Early morning PURPLE Goverment BS!
It's an announcement from the government.
It's BS for sure.
Duh!
That's because the Central Bank has been propping-up the Peso against the Greenback, by dipping in to reserves. The bubble won't be allowed to busts until after the election I think.
What do you think?
Forgive the unrelated intrusion, but, I'm a newbie finding myself with the need for someone to clarify the obvious to me.
I keep seeing this uncomplimentary referral to "purple". And - for the life of me - I can't find out what it means, (google as I might). It seems to me that this has much history, known only to residents.
Rather than take any more space than I just have, can someone email me the answer? Sorry to be asking for what everyone else knows all to well. I just like to be up to speed. Thanks in advance.
Purple is one of the colors (along with yellow and we all know what that color symbolizes) that is used by the current ruling neo-fascist PLD.
I see. Okay thanks. Sorry for asking for a flash of the obvious. LOL. Cheers!
The answer of which begs another question, why did the PLD chose purple?
Blue is the usual color for right-wing parties, red for left-wing, and green for environmentalist, etc.
A mixture of red and blue paint gives purple, so maybe its a bet both ways?
Just a thought,

Thanks for the info, and the creative use of some primary colours in the process. LOL.
Roy,
In DR NOTHING is really as it seems.
Here RED is the color of the NEO-Trujillistas that were organized into PRSC, the Reformist Social Christian Party by Juaqiun Balaguer; the party and the man that bought out Lie-onel and ate up the PLD!
I am starting to think there is am epidemic of colorblindness here. Dominicans with some African ancestry, calling Haitians "black", while bragging they have a Spanish surname?
