Santo Domingo.- The government agencies grouped in the National Water Observatory said Wednesday that the Tavera complex of dams is under permanent monitoring to maintain its current level, to deal with the constant downpours over the Central Mountains.
Frank Rodriguez, director of the dams and canal agency (Indrhi), said the measure was taken to maintain the normal energy levels of the Tavera-Bao-Lopez Angostura dams, the country’s biggest hydroelectric complex.
Rodriguez said the rains of the last few days had risen Tavera’s level sharply, which he affirms will benefit farmers, aqueducts, irrigation and electricity generation.

Perhaps risom was referring to the downpours, rather than the dams.
Certainly dams have a role on flood mitigation - until they break, like the hydro-electric one in China in 1975 killing 171,000 people. Yet opponents of nuclear energy (60 deaths total) are happy with hydro-electric. Figure that one.
