Santo Domingo.- The Wall Street Journal today reveals that Anheuser-Busch InBev has emerged as the lead bidder for the country’s biggest brewery (CND), “in a potential deal that could give the Belgian brewer control over the maker of Presidente beer,” the local market loeader.
Citing people familiar with the matter, the WSJ said the deal being discussed is complex and would effectively partner Anheuser with Grupo León Jimenes, which owns 84% of CND. “Details of the potential deal were unclear, including what role Anheuser's Brazilian unit, AmBev, which trades separately in Brazil, would play,” the news source said, adding that said it “could ultimately result in Anheuser acquiring control of the Dominican brewer.”
It reports that the deal could be struck as early as this week, this person said, noting that one of its sources said the transaction would value CND at roughly $2.5 billion. “A spokeswoman for AB InBev and a CND representative both declined to comment.”
The Wall Street Journal added that if Anheuser, the world's largest brewer, seal a deal for control, “it would gain a beer brand that is exported to the U.S., Europe and various Caribbean countries.”

Sad to see Presidente, our proud icon for Dominicans worldwide, being sold to an international conglomerate. John Goulet predicted it about two years ago, before he was run out of DT by the thought police.

They rather be petty kings as opposed to masters if their own domain. CND is just being greedy. Nothing like being your own boss. Pendejos alla en la Cerveceria de Los Belgas.

Hey guys it is call globolization, Look at England they used to make Jaguar and it got sold to GM. This is the new way, the big fish eats the small fish. It is better for the Leon Jimenez family to get out now before Brahma takes control of the local market the way they has been doing it for the past 2 years.

It's bitter sweet (no pun intended), but this will make Presidente a lot more popular around the world. and it's still going to say Dominican Republic on the label.

Globalization: Big fish eat little fish - end result with monopoly capitalism is the same as communism. One group owns near everything be it elite capitalists or "the Party functionaries' only difference is the stated goals - one bull shits and says it’s for the workers and gets petty support few brands the other says it’s for the peoples freedom - choice ofmany brands - same pockets. Elitism is genetic and financial, communism is blind adherence to dogma and genetic... It’s not what you know - it’s who you know - go to a prestigious school and be a good chum as well as a good student. The social aspect and connects are of co-equal importance. Drink Bohemia and in moderation.
