Monumental Av. Overpass last week.
Santo Domingo.- The Public Works Ministry Monday announced it will close a span of the Duarte highway for two hours tomorrow, during which president Leonel Fernandez will inaugurate the overpass across the Monumental avenue (cemetery).
It said it will close a section of the highway from 5pm to 7pm, to avoid snarling traffic in surrounding areas, and has designated alternate detour routes.
Motorists heading northward on the Duarte highway should take the old Duarte highway at Duarte’s 13 kilometer marker, while those heading south into the city should take the 27 de Febrero extension and return to the Duarte at the Manoguayabo crossing, or continue on the 27 to reach downtown Santo Domingo.

Interesting to see the same idiot postings from juanb filling DT.
Perhaps he should visit a city like Prague with its excellent transportation system based on trams, buses and a wonderful Metro system, A, B and C lines with more to come. Having used both trams and the Metro systems for the last week, I can state categorically how much better DR will be once its system is half-way built.
But the naysayers will continue to message each others b***s to their own enjoyment.

This is a tempest in a teapot, all this umbridge about the highway being closed down for two hours for the president. No different from its daily travails.
What is more inconvenient ?
The highway is obstructed for hours daily because: Gua gua's competing for fares constantly changing lanes and obstructing traffic flow; a slow moving heavy vehicle on the inside lane;
a bumper thumper where the operators are exchanging words, blows, and maybe papers in the travel lanes; a heavy vehicle stopped to change a tire or motor in the travel lanes; a political caravan snailing its way forward or backward in all the lanes; transportistas making a demonstration against whatever is in fashion for the day; operators double or triple parked on the road for a beer, cigarette, or a bite at the roadside colmado; authorities making traffic stops for whatever gain; a crash that gathers 10,000 onlookers; ect, ect, ect.
So what's the big deal with El Presidente ? josean bite your tongue !

What would happen if we had more high school graduates but an even greater transportation defict in the near term in SD? People would be up in arms about the lack of mobility in SD. As it is, they are ALREADY up in arms, can you believe what these people will say with an added million or so MORE people trying to navigate SD by 2025?
The country will best be served by investing grearter resources in each of these sectors (Education and Transportation), BUT THE ECONOMY MUST GROW. Nothing can be sustained without good economic growth.
