Higher Education minister Ligia Amada Melo hands the report to Presdident Fernandez.
Santo Domingo.- President Leonel Fernandez on Thursday said semi-attendance universities need to be created and higher education need to be combined with technology, as the way to improve the country’s structure for development.
The chief executive said higher education needs to emphasize physics, biology, chemistry, math and the knowledge scientific to develop its abilities in engineering, complement them with social sciences, “and thus improve our scientific knowledge.”
Fernandez spoke in the National Palace last night to present the report "Evaluations of Education Policies: Higher Education in the Dominican Republic," by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

To heck with all the political bells, whistles, hot air, and sparkles. Emphasize funding, the rest will take care of itself.

Considering the majority of kids leave school unable to add, subtract, multiply or divide even basic numbers suggesting higher education in these disciplines is ludicrous. The first priority should be to get basic education up to acceptable levels.

Dready,
Just to add a few notes. He might mean with it an education that uses remote learning plus attendance at University. This method is being considered by some countries as a way to increase the number of students in universities, as one good professor can teach many scores of students via modern media devices at once.

Yes of course and sad to see others don't understand. But when your ALWAYS trying to see things in a NEGATIVE way, why should we be surprised?
Thanks for the invitation tschotschua, but my wife and I are headed south to Budapest from Vienna before going back to visit friends in Praha; so it will not be on this trip.

I think what he means is 2 yrs college or tecnical & vocational school, thereby not attending scool full time, or like some one stated above one good professor giving a lecture and have it televised
into the class room nation wide.or learn on line, show up for the test .Bergen tech proposed something similar but the students had to be present in the class-rooms, since it was going to be a close ckt program .The teacher's union did not allow it ,since it would cut down teachers, which was the only reason, So with the county's gvt approval 17 yrs ago the shool was converted to 6 academies in Hackensack for students with academics skills & transfered the Vocational & technical program to Teteborogh air port since the ratio of vocational to technical was 8-2,got rid of 123 teachers with the excuse of down-sizing school regardless of tenure. It is now the equivalence of 2 yr college upon graduation .It proved to be a success.
