SANTO DOMINGO.- Of the 9,445,281 Dominicans living in the country 50.17% are men and 49.83% women, according to National Census 2010 figures disclosed by the National Statistics Office Thursday morning.
Upon providing the data in the National Palace, Economy minister Temístocles Montas said contrary to what was believed, there are more men (4,739,038) than women (4,706,243).
The official also stressed the population’s decelerated growth, with a rate of only 11.11% compared with the 2002 Census.
The leading age group is the 35 to 64 year-olds with 2,709,758, or 28.7%, followed by children from 0 to 9, with 1,835,166, or 19.4%.
