Santo Domingo.- President Leonel Fernandez on Thursday sent to the Senate a US$216.8 million financing contract for the environmental cleanup of Santiago province, including sewage treatment plants.
The contractor Consorcio Sanesan will build the works, according to the construction with Santiago’s aqueducts and sewage systems agency (Coraasan).
In the attached message Fernandez says the funds will be invested in the construction and expansion of sewage treatment plants and drainage pipes in the province, to avert infections from contaminated waters in the wake of flooding.
The loan contract sent to the Senate Public Works Commission for study notes that the lack of adequate cleanup in various parts of the province, such as Tamboril, lead to the outbreaks of cholera and other diseases linked to tainted waters.

Muy bien hecho and a very looooong time in coming. Santiago has over 1 million people and its sanitation system is far from being adequate.
SD gets a lot of infrastructure, hopefully Santiago will see some more coming its way soon. This is a start. How about that SD to Santiago Rail? When are we getting more news on that important project?
