Santo Domingo.- The Public Works Ministry on Monday announced the completion of constructions in advanced stages before August 16, as pledged by president Leonel Fernandez in his address to the Nation on February 27, while those under concession will continue their normal timeframe.

It said among the projects to be finished figure the Coral Highway (east), the bridges Caiman, in southwestern Pedernales; Baitoa, across the North Yaque river in Baitoa, Santiago and Masipedro, in Monseñor Noel (central), and others nationwide.

The Coral Highway, the East region’s most important infrastructure, will expand the country’s central road grid by linking Santo Domingo with major cities, airports and tourist destinations, and features a bridge with Teflon technology across the Chavon river between La Romana and Higüey, which cost more than US$350 million.

It said the 70 kilometer-long Coral Highway also boasts a road to bypass La Romana, among other works.

In the statement published in the Presidency’s website, Public Works adds that the work will continue on the Sabana de la Mar-Miches-Uvero Alto-Bavaro highway, being  at a cost of more than US$265 million.

I think your Lord and Saviour Lie-onel has more important things than to worry about the peasant josean:

Another one of Lie-onel Fernandez’s Buddies is in Hot Water!

"SEC accuses Ontario man in $163-million Ponzi scheme"

Before his business crumbled amid allegations of fraud, Ontario entrepreneur Derek Elliott ran a luxurious but money-losing resort in the Dominican Republic that once hosted Hollywood celebrities and a Maxim magazine beauty pageant.

Now, he faces a complaint from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that he and a former U.S. business associate, James Catledge, were behind an “international fraudulent scheme.”

So Lie-onel Fernandez after August 16th you may have to answer;” What did you Know and When did you Know it!”

According to the Toronto Globe and Mail, Canadian businessman Derek Elliott has been issued with a complaint from the US Securities and Exchange Commission that he and his former US business associate, James Catledge were behind an international fraudulent scheme. Elliott ran the Sun Village Resort & Spa near Puerto Plata until 2009. The SEC alleges that the pair sold timeshare and ownership in interests in Mr. Elliott's resorts and took in nearly US$164-million from about 1,200 investors, who were "falsely" promised attractive guaranteed returns.

Hey Basta any man that has some respect for a woman would not use the words that just use to discribe Margarita, Remember that she is a mother I don't think that any son or daughter would like to read some comments like the ones that just made about their mothers. So plese have a little bit of respect and civility and stop using those bad words to describe a woman, it is just not a nice thing to say or call a hard working woman, And yes you may not like her but you have to show some respect to the first lady of my beloved Dominican Republic, because i don't think that you would it want anyone saying it about your mother.

bernies,
Margarita is no longer the 1st Lady. She is an elected politician, the vice-president to be precise. She has chosen to play in a rough and dirty game. Therefore she is not immune from attack, just because she is a woman and a mother. As far as I know, she has not demanded any special privileges because of her gender, other than forgiveness for being absent at the most critical stage of the election. Successful politicians like Margaret Thatcher and Julia Gillard have never hidden behind their skirts. If she can't stand the heat, she shouldn't go in the kitchen.

Thanks, Josean,
But like most Australians, I don't like alcohol.
Regardless, maybe bernies has a point.

If more Dominicans respected women then maybe fewer would become mothers before finishing high-school, or legalize abortion so fewer would be mutilated by back-yard abortionists, or not beat them up (months after ditching them for a younger woman) for looking at another man.

Perhaps Lionel has timed these projects perfectly - he gets to take the credit and publicity for all these public works before Danilo takes over, but avoids the claim that these works were timed to support the PLD's re-election. Very smart!

The Purple Chickens of Stagnation have come home to Roost!

The Central Bank lowers interest rates to boost economy

The economy is operating below its capacity and has room to grow without generating price pressures

The Central Bank yesterday cut its interest rate monetary policy, putting it at 6.75% to 6.0% and decreased from 9.0% to 8.0% the Lombard rate, a decision that the Governor of that institution, Hector Valdez Albizu, described as wise by its impact in stimulating the Dominican economy. He argued that the decision, which will take effect from tomorrow (June 1), is based on the projections point to an inflation rate below the limit of the target for this year.
