Slum on the Ozama.
Zoom Picture

Santo Domingo.- The mayor of Santo Domingo East on Thursday said the Government together with the Federation of the of City Councils should urgently deal with the social problems along the Ozama and Isabela river banks, where investments might be developed.

Juan de los Santos said special attention should be placed on the slums which have sprouted in those areas.

He said he’s more than convinced that a healthy, pollution free river cannot be attained unless the public sector works together, to pool funds and raise residents’ awareness on the need to protect those bodies of water.

De los Santos, quoted by eldia.com.do, said his administration has worked to improve the quality of life of the residents and revealed that investors have proposed the development of projects in those areas.

Just imagine how that area would look today, the benefit that it would have produced in employment and the final product of housing to the public, not to mention the value it would have add to Santo Calcutta, if we had not WASTED to $2,000,000,000 BILLION US DOLLARS on Lie-onel's Reelection Choo-Choo Train!

A must for the future as these urban disaster zones make the DR look very bad indeed. In addition, these slums are swimming with all sorts of social and health problems.

This was one thing that struck me as very strange when I first came here...

To see such a wide river and no nice house on it.. river real estate prices around the world are much higher than most, just below beach side.. So to see the river covered in shanties and so filthy was quite a shock... Rivers were and still are the life blood of cities but it seems this one never has been...
Some thing needs to be done to change this.

the reef structures off the coast of Hispaniola are just about extinct. on the part of Haiti, cutting down all those trees contributed to coastal pollution, along with massive coastal population drift. on the Dominican side...just plain filthy habits. dumping garbage everywhere, in some cases in areas where there is porous soil, like limestone, does a world of harm to groundwater, and runoff into the ocean. why do you believe that Dominican fishermen are always getting arrested in the territorial waters of other islands in the area? yes, you guessed it. there are no fish left here. nor, many birds. upcoming governments have to embark upon a program of education, to express to citizens that not only is garbage an eyesore, but tourists hate seeing it, and it degrades the environment. time to stop throwing styrofoam out of car windows.

Were they both bought in Europe or in China ?

when a reef is alive it brings more fish, lobsters, crabs
this in turn brings a real fishing business made up of tourists, but it also is a great food source for the locals. {they the locals though need to ice up their catch}

Jamaica is one of the most violent countries in the world, a very recent ex colony ( didn’t even fight for independence), the whole population is only the size of greater santo Domingo , with a economy going backward with a deep decline in exportations, a twisted religion-drug tradition, an African way of living and a white queen that don’t want to know anything about black people..

@DREADSLOCK POTHEAD:

Let me answer to some of this nonsense:

1.-Jamaicans don’t have a tertiary education ( 1st lie): If you check in Wikipedia, ”Dominicans have a high level of college students way over portoricans and Mexicans” not to mention illiterates Jamaicans

2.-Jamaicans simply don’t go to school. I ‘ve never meet a engineer, doctor, investor, scientist, surgeons, bankers, brokers, etc .In long long years in USA. So, to mention the 5th grade of professional between immigrants it’s a BIG lie and you know it. ( 2nd lie)

3.-Jamaicans have the highest % of drug addicts between immigrants

4.-Your ignorance about Dominican history is just AMAZING

5.-You mention if we ever had Dominican racer in Olympics. Please check who Felix sanchez is. But our passion is not racing ( kinda boring) , but baseball , and we ‘re the best in the world. Not to mention the people that we have in NBA already (Excellent game yesterday by Al Horford did U see it?)

Written by: ohhhvictor, 9 May 2012 6:04 PM
From: United States
6.- Jamaicans are very good selling “wheat” in the bodegas ( and EVERYBODY knows that).Only the cheapest drugs on the streets.

7.-How can you differentiate a Jamaican form a black guy in USA ? The dirty clothes, the bad attitude, and the mix of smell of curry and ganja and lack of showers in weeks ( Yes, they stinks very bad ! )

8.-75% of Jamaicans own a house? In your mind! Not even in the ghettos.. ! I haven’t meet the first Jamaicans that own a house ( 3 rd lie), specially when you don’t work?

9.-You only had Collin Powell in the military? We have coronels, generals, US ambassadors, mayors, and a Dominican judges association in USA.

10.- According to Wikipedia, Jamaica is one of the nation with higuest rate of homicide. In other words, a nation of criminals and killers.

Conclusion:
a)Don’t compare your nasty small shantytown , with D.R. , that is the biggest economy and the leader in foreign investment of central America and the Caribbean ( wikipedia)

C) Don’t insult Dominican intelligence.. We are not the same. You are just coming out of slavery and your economy is going backwards according to wikipedia. We are an independent country for 168 years !

D) You must be a cheap dirty stinky criminal, like the rest of your people. Must sucks to be Jamaican .Big time

E) I am not a Jamaican hater, but you are a jealous Jamaican. Don’t hate , don’t hate!
Stay away from Dominican forums and don’t embarrass yourself anymore.

Dready Pothead..
Let me answer some things :

--You mention Bob Marley? That's not music, that's the most BORING and repetitive stuff on earth..Make me go to sleep right away.. (Literally speaking! )

--We have more deportations because we are almost 5 times bigger than you.. But the drug consumption average is WAY less than yours! do the math!

--We , as dominicans ,are proud of having a mix of 3 races,( we come with all colors and flavors ! ) as well, as you should be proud of having your 100 % african race and culture

Again , I know you are stone, normal as jamaican, but do you have ANYTHING INTELLIGENT to say?

I understand that you are jealous of dominican for a thousand reason but go and f** yourself up somewhere else..

What a moron! :) !

you are too stupid to be let out of the house without being on a leash. what does the size of a country have to do with deportation? Canada is several times bigger than the DR, so, by your caveman reckoning, should have many times the amount of deportations. it is only the populations that matter. there are 1 million Dominicans in the USA, and 800,000 Jamaicans. yet you have 4 times the amount of deportations. YOU DO THE MATH! or, get someone who can count to ten to do it for you.

victor, you stated that you would not touch a stinky jamaican girl with a ten foot pole. so, i ask you, what is this

Incest is common
In 2004, there were 13,000 cases of sexual abuse and incest, according to sexologists Martha Diaz, Carmen Maria Castillo and Milly Perez, who is director of the National Institute of Sexual Education. In 2003, there were 16,000 cases of incest and sexual abuse a year in the Dominican Republic. The sex experts urge that more of the victims be able to participate in group therapy to get over the resulting traumas.

now i understand your thinking. why should you bother to go through the trouble of having to wine and dine some stinky jamaican girl, to use your language, when you can buy your sister a 30 peso Claro phone card, and have all the nookie you can use for a month?

the last time you won a tournament was in 1948. check your history. you might have the best talent, but real men show up when the money is on the table. your guys talk the talk, like you, but cannot walk the walk. so, when they get beaten by amateurs and scrubs, like Holland, they make excuses about their stars not playing, or that anyone can win a short series. well, if anyone can win, how come you are always the guys that lose?

how many football players do you have in Europe? get the point, cave boy? baseball is not our sport. you have no proof that you are the best baseball players, because YOU HAVE WON NOTHING. we won five out of six gold medals in the last Olympics. set three world records. that was in 2012. the last time you won in baseball was 1948. we won more medals, in one race, than you won in the entire olympic games. that is dominance.

1. Jamaica don't play baseball.. Like asking how many tons have Dominicans scored in international 20/20, limited over and tests??? answer none.... Because DR don't play cricket...

2. DR is simply not the best as their wold ranking is 12, Australia at 11, Cuba at 1.. So for you to say "we are simply the best in the world.." is simply a lie and make you look even more foolish that you can't understand that a world ranking of 12 is not considered the "BEST"...
