SANTO DOMINGO. - Prominent forestry engineer and Deputy Environment minister Bernabe Mañon said Monday that Congress needs to pass a Forestry Law which protects and expand the forests, in the all Dominicans can participate."

He said forests are the cornerstone for a balanced ecosystem and for the social and economic life of the island.

Speaking in the conference “Dominican vegetation current and future perspective," the expert noted that the management of forests must be done very carefully, so as to increase forest cover each year, with sustainable practices and policies. “There should always be management and identification for the movement of plants every tree and controls at each point in the country."

He said the bill for the Forestry Law drafted by Environment officials to be submitted to Congress “is an important tool for the country’s challenges to climate change and global warming.”

Mañon, speaking in the National Evangelical University to mark World Environment Day, noted that more than 60% of the country’s territory is mountains, “allowing us to have water despite that the growing population presses us to take intelligent action to preserve the quantity and quality of this vital liquid."

Panamá has an immigrant-investor plan whereby foreigners get instant residency with a whole lot of perks whereby they invest in teak reforestation programs.

And the benefits are tax-free.

What good is this, or any law without law enforcement.

To true ....when they have already crumbled on enforcing the immigrant worker laws. Wont build a road because people will build next to it ...etc ...etc ..

How in hell would this one hope to work?

All nice on paper to pass it but to enforce it... hahahahha

The D.R. has actually gained in forested areas over the past 20 years. These are just a bunch of bureaucratic peons who want some $$$ by preying on Liberal guilt

According to government spin, Dominican forest cover is already growing at a fantastic pace, so what's the fuss about?
The reality is, the environment of Hispaniola is fu(ked. There are still some pockets worthy of eco-tourism, but once opened up with roads and tourist accommodation, the parasitic fast-breeding feral peasants move in and build shanties on the flood-plains and hillsides, and wealthy parasitic bureaucrats build fortified villas on the hilltops.
Meanwhile the Haina Styrofoam Glacier and the Ozama Sewer continue to flow into the Caribbean.

Roystone was the same treehugging douche who was screaming 30 years ago how man-made global "Cooling" was going to lead to a new Ice Age or that Overpopulation would lead to worldwide famine in 10 years. That was in 1970.

Really, anthonyC, based on what, NRA "logic"?
I don't hug trees and never have. I plant them, and always have.
Whether AGW is real or not, overpopulation has for a long time been causing famine in many regions, and we are already suffering the irreversible consequences of deforestation. So what are you and your blood-lust NRA mates going to shoot when there is no more fauna, or habitat to support it - with a bit of luck each other?
