Santo Domingo.- The Dominican economy grew 3.8% in the first quarter of 2012, or 0.5% less than the same period last year and 3.7% lower than the first three months in 2010.

The moderate growth means that though under stability, the economy is operating below its installed capacity.

The figures from the Central Bank’s report on the Dominican Economy January-March 2012, indicate that the fastest growing sectors were, petroleum refining and manufacturing, which rose 34.5%, and mines and quarries, 25.6%.

actually, since you do not appear to know what GDP is, you should keep your trap shut, and learn something. it is unbecoming to make repeated nonsensical statements. government incumbents tend to spend more during the last year of their tenure, in order to stimulate short term economic performance, creating an appearance of prosperity. that is when all the roads get paved, and guys like Leo buy 50 pairs of scissors, to cut ribbons for new bridges, overpasses, and other major works. that is when governments spend 300 million pesos on billboards on signs, and untold millions on tv and radio spots. that is when all the new botellas come on board, bloating the government payroll, and driving up the GDP. as i said, Caca, you are out of your depth here.

I coubt if there are more than a handful of countries in the world that have had the 2012 first quarter growth of 3.8%....in the current circumstances of world uncertainty .it is a remarkable achievement .It is good to see the recovery in manufacturing which I feel is the direct result of the government improving the existing zona francas and building more modern ones . Yes every country in the world has a capacity to produce more ,,that is not just unique to the DR . It is much much worse in almost every country in Europe and this can be measured to some extent by the high unemployment figures there

If the Dominican republic link up with other Latin countries they will be much stronger and won't need help from the USA
