Santo Domingo.- President Leonel Fernandez yesterday recognized 60 Dominican industries with from 50 to 160 years since founded, during a National Palace gala to mark the 50th anniversary of Dominican Republic’s Industries Association (AIRD).
Accompanied by Industry and Commerce minister Manuel Garcia Arevalo, and AIRD president Ligia Bonetti de Valiente, Fernandez presented the awards to the moguls José Luis Corripio (Pepin), recognized for his company Pisos y Techados Torginol, and José Vicini, for Consorcio Azucarero de Empresas Industriales.
Also lauded were the publishers Editora Listín Diario, and El Caribe, J. Armando Bermúdez y Compañía La Tabacalera, La Aurora, Central Romana Corporation, Brugal & Comp.; Cortés Hermanos, and Cervecería Nacional Dominicana.
In addition, Munné & Comp.; César Iglesias; Cemento Colón; Industrias Banilejas; Sociedad Industrial Dominicana; Nestlé Dominicana and Fertilizantes Químicos Dominicanos.

Dominican universities at the tail of Latin America
"No Dominican University qualifies for the demanding QS ranking of London"
London, United Kingdom (EFE).- Brazilian universities dominate the ranking of Latin American institutions of higher education released today by the consulting firm headquartered in London Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), followed by the Mexican and the colombinas.
Other countries with educational centers in the index are Peru (10 universities), Ecuador (6), Venezuela (6), Cuba (5), Uruguay (4), Costa Rica (3), Paraguay (3), Panama (2), Guatemala (1), Nicaragua (1) and Puerto Rico (1)
