SANTO DOMINGO.- The International Monetary Fund (IMF) yesterday offered  president-elect Danilo Medina and his management and technical staff the assistance needed improve the standard of living of all Dominicans.

It said it’s aware of Medina wishes to also adopt policies to consolidate macroeconomic stability and promote high sustainable growth during the 2012-2016 period.

The IMF stated its interest to cooperate in a letter to Medina, signed by the agency’s executive director Nogueira Batista. "I wish to assure that the IMF management and staff are available to work with your government and your economic team to achieve these goals."

He noted that that Dominican Republic has had a good economic performance in recent years, "but like most countries, faces significant internal challenges and at the same time greater volatility in the global economy."

During his election campaign Medina stressed the reduction of poverty and social inequality as his two key challenges.

The IMF offering "assistance" is funny, just like the credit counseling services that offer "assistance" so debtors will reveal all their assets, so they can attach them more quickly, in cahoots with the banks and credit card companies.

All the IMF wants to do is lend as much money as possible, so that DR will be unable to pay back. Then take over the profitable assets, so DR will never be able to pay back. Eternal dept is very good for banks and the cheaters of the IMF.

I don't think that the IMF is in any sort of hurry to lend us money.

Mejia made a lot of promises in order to borrow money, lived up to none of them and ultimately they refused to lend any more.

Then came LF. He made a lot of promises in order to borrow money, lived up to none of them and ultimately they walked away again. This time, however, because of the complete lack of integrity shown by LF, money that they had previously agreed to lend ($500,000,000) was withheld.

Now they are dealing with LF Light. How could they possibly think that anything will change.

The morals of our government remind me of a very popular perfume commercial from back in the day:

PROMISE HER ANYTHING, BUT GIVE HER ARPEGE.

illiterate ? you moron, the biggest illiterate here is probably you. I'm in my senior (4th) year in college and almost over by the end of this year in civil engineering. I have contributed to several projects in both the US and DR and proud to have worked with my dad as well who does the same. So now that's what I call instead a fair share in contributions to society sir! =D
Now go hang out with your pathetic haitian buddies in little haiti and tell them we don't want them in our country.
