Santo Domingo.- The annual Mango Fair in the south western city of Baní was inaugurated on Thursday night.

The fair, which continues through Sunday, includes presentations by international and national mango cultivation experts as well as cooking demonstrations by teachers and students from the PUCMM University Hotel School, at the Perelló Cultural Center.

The program continues with tours of mango plantations in the Baní area on Saturday, with explanations about cultivation, harvesting and processing, and special varieties including organic mangoes.

The main square outside the municipal building is the site of an exhibition of the main local varieties, sale of mangoes and mango-based products, agricultural equipment, business platforms and production technology, and artistic and cultural performances in the evenings.

The event is also sponsoring children’s painting workshops and competitions, and the famous “Come Mango” contest.

The organizers are hoping that the event will also help promote the country’s “mango capital”, Baní, as an eco-tourism destination.

More information can be found at www.expomango.org

Organizing entities include PROMANGO (Dominican Mango Cluster), the Ministry of Agriculture, the Dominican Institute of Agricultural and Forestry Research (IDIAF), the USAID Rural Diversification Project (RED), the Municipality of Baní, the provincial Governor’s Office, the Agriculture and Forestry Development Center (CEDAF), the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Culture, the Center for Exports and Investment (CEI-RD), the International Regional Organization for Agricultural Health (OIRSA), the National Competitiveness Council, the Agribusiness Board (JAD) and private institutions that are PROMANGO members.

"special varieties including organic mangoes."
I wonder, what do inorganic mangoes look like?

KISKEYAMAN,
The mangos in the photo have had the skin cut off. I know food is hard to get in Haiti, but do you eat the skin too?

So much for KISKEYAMAN's BS
Here are the facts - production of mangoes per year in thousands of tons;
Year.........2008 2009 2010
Haiti..........245 244 218
Dom Rep..195 257 300

For KISKEYAMAN's benefit - 300 is more than 218. The Dominican Republic produces more mangos than Haiti, and is increasing production. Haitian production is dropping. They are turning the trees into charcoal, and smoking the seedlings?

Where are you find this information.
Give me the link to proove it!
even you product more is not a good quality. You put chemical in your mangoe, but it's not the case for the mangoes of HAITI. The mangoes have the better taste in the world.
Even you product more, you don't export more than HAITI.
The haitians mangoes are the best believe me, we work for the qualities not the quantities like you do.

KISKEYAMAN,
The data is from:
FOOD AND AGRICULTURE ORGANIZATION OF THE UNITED NATIONS
faostat.fao.org/site/567/DesktopDefault.aspx?PageID=567#ancor

Okay, now where is your proof that the Dominican Republic puts chemicals in their mangoes, and that Haiti doesn't, and that Haitian mangoes are the tastiest and highest quality in the world? Or where you just talking out of you proud, uninformed ass as usual?

roystone might be right about the numbers kiskeyaman. you have to remember haitian mango is organic and take longer to grow. while dominican mango is not it so it grow faster. that is the reason we have one of the best mango in the world. the most expensive mango you could buy in the state is the haitian mango. so roystone more does not mean better

I'm still waiting for evidence, that the Dominican Republic puts chemicals in their mangoes, and that Haiti doesn't, and that Haitian mangoes are the tastiest and highest quality in the world. Also how do you account for production dropping off in Haiti?

Kakaman eats mud cookies and Haitian mangoes and gulps it down with a tall glass of putrid water. It is the key to his intelligence and clear thought process.
