SANTO DOMINGO.- President Leonel Fernandez arrived in Rio de Janeiro yesterday to participate in United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, Rio +20 from June 20 to 22, sponsored by Brasilia and the UN.

On Thursday Fernandez will tout Dominican Government's efforts to improve the population’s living standards, and to protect the natural resources.

In the gathering Dominican Republic will advocate the creation of an entity within the UN to strengthen the work strategies and funding mechanisms to protect the environment. It will also discuss the sustainability of water, loss of biodiversity and the eradication of poverty, among others.

The president is accompanied by the Ministers of the Economy, Temistocles Montas, Public Works, Victor Diaz Rua, the Environment, Ernesto Reyna, and Press director Rafael Nunez, among others.

Leonel is lobbying for a position in the UN. He has been a mediator in Latin-American affairs and very outspoken in UN meetings. Hopefully he sets an example for other Dominican expresidents.

What a blowhard.

He has already set an example for former presidents. Steal all you can, and make sure to take care of your rich friends.

Dominicans and Latins in general feel that they are entitled to have what others have struggled for. If your neighbor had the money, the discipline or luck to acquire a Jaguar then you should also have one. Postings complaining about education, eletricity, corruption, etc. are usually because there is a feeling entitlement.

TonyTunTun,
When people complain about education and electricity it's because they have a feeling of entitlement? I mean come on dude! i get that you love Leonel, but how can you say something like that, do you fully understand what you wrote?

In psychiatric terms, this behavior is not so much indicative of dementia as having delusions of grandeur. Is this an old photo? Leo may be lacking common sense, but has impeccable dress sense, grey ties are out and striped ties are back in.

This guy for sure belongs in a mental hospital permanently. Maybe UN could use him as a study how to deal with presidents a la Napoleon.
