SANTO DOMINGO. - The Senate on Wednesday approved two loans totalling US$118.5 million for social programs and to finish construction of the Coral highway.

The first agreement for US$80 million from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) will go to social programs, including the welfare program Solidarity.

The loan’s remaining 38.5 million dollars from the US Export-Import Bank will be used by the Public Works Ministry to partially finance the Coral highway, which will complete the 4-lane controlled access road link between Santo Domingo to Punta Cana.

I am afraid it will take much more than that to finish the Coral Highway ..I doubt if I have ever seen such a badly managed project ..and right from the start the priorities were all wrong ,,the first thing should have been the by passes around la Romana and Higuey y La Otra Banda but now they will be about the last ,,at present we still use the old dangerous road which gets worse by the day

If we start amping our welfare programs we are sure to see an influx of Puerto Ricans. We all know how they love those welfare checks.
