Santo Domingo.- Transport Reform Office (Optret) Assistant director Leonel Carrasco Wednesday revealed that because of a lack of funds it will be up to President-elect Danilo Medina to inaugurate the second Metro (subway).

He said the work is in its final stage but the downpours of the last few weeks have prompted delays in its completion.

Nonetheless Carrasco didn’t specify when the work would be finally in service.

So, what's the big deal ? Get away from the political photo ops. They should have a lottery to allow a Metro patron the honor of cutting the ribbon. It is Juan or Juana public who are footing the bill for the project so why not have one of them do it.

Not a problem. Surely the funds will turn up for its' completion, so that we can start line #3.
Medina & Margarita will make it so.
Thank heaven for the purple party!

That'll make traffic there a lot less chaotic, Ricardolito.
I'm thinking Medina will have it all done within his tenure. (8 years).

HateitorLOVEIT,

You said..."Lienol and his boys are genuis'..... Who else would build a subway on an island with 2.5 major faults! Lienol, you need to build some Arks!!"

Do you mean that they built it right on top of the fault?! How many faults are in Japan? Mexico?

You certainly are not going to suggest that METROLANDIA’S First Responders, Civil Defense and Emergency Management Services or on par with Japan or México for that matter, are you?

@josean,

Obviously we are not at the same level. However, do we need to be? For example, Japan history of earthquakes, typhoons and other natural disasters is in part responsible for the level of training and efficiency of their EMS system. We are good at dealing with Hurricanes. Earthquakes, like the one that hit Haiti (2010) with a magnitude 7.0 Mw, or above, don't seem to be that common on the island. I mean we got hit by one early this year 5.3Mw, a moderate one I grant you, and the Metro still rolling.

@josean,

If someone in Japan lives in a hut, it doesn't matter the level of their EMS, the Typhoon or Hurricane will destroy the hut.

Didn't i tell you guys the subway construction would come to a full stop pending more borrowed $?

I think DR has maxed out its credit from IMF as wel as the W/B. Can't they finish it with local bank

loans? It is a shame to leave the work half done because of lock of resources. Don't you think so?

Maybe the Metro could finance itself from the portion already build to continue on, even if they have

to float another US$500 millions, as they did for the electric sector.They must take advantage of

cheap Haitian labor that will not be there forever once they get on their feet.

"I think DR has maxed out its credit"

Mr. Rancier you and JP MorganChase:

“JP Morgan considers that the deterioration of the fiscal situation Dominican prevent reallocation of resources”

SANTO DOMINGO ( Dominican Republic) The planned issuance of bonds for $ 500 million to finance the subsidy to the Dominican Corporation of State electric companies (CDEEE), has led the JP Morgan Chase conglomerate to conclude that the fiscal situation of the Dominican Republic has deteriorated to such an extent that " you can not reallocate budgetary resources for unforeseen needs, as it had done in the past".

Josean;

See that was all together inapropiate from the gvt's stand, to borrow money so it can subsidize

anything . If you are going to borrow money at least let it go to something that will pay for itself,

such as building a 600 MW gass power plant as planned prior ,That infrastructure would pay for

itself and would be more efficient than any in existance and will get DR out of the hole As it's now

all they are doing is renting barges for a few years to generate electricity for as long as the gvt

is willing to pay for their services as emergency. If stopped, they just desconnect an run over to Fl.

At least the Metro was a good investment and they can not take it with them. Again DR's planning

sucks. Don't tell me that for 8 yrs LF was in power such project could not have been done parallel

with the METRO and serves itself of electric power
