SANTO DOMINGO.- A pound of chicken should be no higher than RD$43.0 and unfair commercial practices which jeopardize consumers will not be tolerated, is the crux of an agreement reached by the Consumer Protection Agency (Pro-Consumidor) and poultry farmst.

"The pound of chicken can be sold for 40, 38 or 42, but not more than 43 pesos. We’ll enforce Article 419 of the Penal Code on merchants who sell it for more than 43 pesos, which establishes penalties for speculation," said Pro Consumidor director Altagracia Paulino.

She said supermarkets can sell a pound of chicken up to 45 pesos since they have other expenses. "Fresh chicken at the supermarket is more expensive than all other outlets, don’t buy there, go to the butcher."

 Agreement

The agreement comes just one day after Paulino threatened to call "a day without chicken" boycott to force vendors, middlemen and farmers to lower its price

The official added that the details of the agreement will be announced Monday.

Representatives of the Grupo Ramos, Bravo Supermarkets, Mercatodo, National Poultry Commission, the Agriculture Ministry, Centro Cuesta Nacional among other chains attended The meeting.

Look what happens when people throw shet at each other. The government cries speculation and the farmers mention the middle man . I guess the government employed middle man must be taking a loss.

Mr. Bus Coon,
The government would be blatantly boycotting itself in that situation.

All these could be fixed if they imported the chicken from the USA at half the price yet. Been they

belong to DR/CAFTA along with USA. That will stop from being such huggs and try not to squees

the little guys from his /her last penny. They could get plane loads of fresh chicken daily from the

States and all could eat chicken rather than having it as a luxury. This will teach the gvt to read very

carefull any treaty signed that might be used aginst their own small business specially when

dealing with such a countr like the USA where the farmers get 17% subsidies.

No sign of AC today? He is probably dumping all his poultry shares.

This is a great outcome. The means led to reason!

Well done!

I despise cronyism so along with actions like this people still ask me why I divested myself from all business interest in the D.R.

From now on I will only deal F.O.B., Pre-paid outside the D.R. or nothing at all/

AC, good luck in your failling business venture!

What do you know about dictators? You seem to know soooooo much!

And, why should you keep posting here when you have nothing to do here but make remarks without any facts? So, by all means, do dissapear!!!

I have shares into a great non-US company that is doing extremely good, but speculation crap coming out from your way keeps dragging it down the drain, so my lifes savings are dwindling while your likes make all the money out of it.... Your speculation non-sense in the US is affecting the whole global economy. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Poverty breeds dictatorships not staple food speculation.

So, why should we take advise from a former Enron employee!

Your mentality has and is still bringing down the economy of your country and dragging down developing countries. Stay out of the DR. And go speculate yourself!

In a Mobocracy the most popular gangsters get yipetas and get to party in the palace.
They keep the mob at bay by siccing their electors onto society's creators and producers.
The looters get their wishes — until the producers can no longer reduce costs or quality enough to go on producing.

Then the mob, predictably, historically, rampages until a worse gangster takes over. And the cycle repeats.
In a truly free market everyone is both consumer and producer. Quality increases and price decreases.

With intermediation by government gangsters or mobilized looters this organic human process flies apart.

Not to worry. You SHALL get what you wish for.

Leave basic local items out of the hands of stock market speculators and you will see the difference. That is how you encourage people to spend money on other consumables than the necessities of life. That is how you take them out of poverty, because there is more expendable cash in their pockets after they have filled their bellies. Instead of dumping food to influence market prices.... Feed the poor, then they will not be inclined to vote for the first dictator or socialist that promise to keep their belly full! Where poverty is so bad that the poor out-number the rich and there is no middle-class buffer, then you get dictators running for power. Would rather see some corruption than opression! At least there is some democracy and any young democracy starts with corruption before controls are adopted, even the USA.
@pelaut.... Are you related to our God to make this prediction? And.... I bought my yepeta myself!
@elBuscoon.... I am very worried that you agree

DR always will be a platano republic. So long as the dictator plays by the US rules we will look the other way. Mess with our citizens and we will warn them not to come.

Government price fixing of chicken? Well you chopas in government must have learned how we in the US fix milk prices :-)

Uh oh!

Mess over the price of chicken is still on

Pardon the Pun: But apparently The Director of Pro consumer, Altagracia Paulino, counted her Chickens Before they Hatched!

SANTO DOMINGO. Poultry farmers are divided with regard to the prices of chicken in the market, while some believe that it must not pass Rd $43 per pound, others argue that it must not be sold below RD$ 50.

While, the consumer has to buy it at RD$ 50 and the agreed upon agreement with the Pro Consumer agency is up in the air.

The Director of Pro Consumer, Altagracia Paulino, reported yesterday that she hoped that the first two days of this week she can finish the agreement, but it is not fair that the chicken prices reach more than RD$ 43.

The officer said that if she is not to able to find just settlement for the consumer, it won't be one day, but a week that the public will be prompted not consume the product.

Another alternative, she said, woud be import meat to deal with speculation of prices on the market.

Some poultry farmers as Ambriorix Cabrera, have said that he does not recognize the Pro Consumer agreement, as it was done with some producers and not the majority.

The ministers are blowing smoke so they can keep their jobs. Don't eat chicken DR. Also boycott the malls and restaurants until the government middle men reduce thir take. Then keep the pressure on.
