Santo Domingo.- President Leonel Fernandez will be the ex president in 47 days, but in his future schedule figure a UN effort to draft the a convention against financial speculation, and two initiatives aimed at bringing Europe, the Arab world and Latin America closer financially.
Locally he faces the task of reengineering the ruling PLD party which he chairs, to make a modern organization of ideas to forge new leaders and improve communication with its rank-and-file and supporters.
Fernandez is slated to be in Europe and Dubai in September and November to join two separate, task forces but both aim to promote interregional trade by channelling major European and some UAE nations’ investments to fund development projects through the Inter-American Development Bank and other Latin America credit agencies.
The President is ready to participate in a select group chosen by the UN to discuss and propose a draft for international agreements against financial speculation, a mechanism designed to ensure that the world's economies don’t sustain major setbacks from crisis by the domino effect, stemming from trading commodities futures, energy and securities.

Brazil still has massive problems with corruption in high places, however unlike the Dominican Republic, is no longer a kletocracy in my opinion. Neither Rousseff, or the former president Lula, have massive fortunes resulting from their public office. Presumably they sleep well at night with clear consciences. They entered public life for ideological reasons. Lets hope that some Dominican politicians have done the same.
