Santo Domingo.- With ribbon cuttings for two aqueducts in southern provinces Tuesday president Leonel Fernandez kicks off inaugurals for major works nationwide ending August 15, one day prior to handing power over to ruling PLD party colleague and president elect Danilo Medina, who will take office August 16.
Public Works Minister Victor Diaz said just his department has more than 10 works ready to inaugurate before August 16, among them country roads, highways, bridges and housing projects.
He said from July 24 to 26 Fernandez will inaugurate six works built at a cost of RD$.12 billion, including the Coral Highway, considered a key for the country’s tourism development, slated for August 8. "Between now and August 16 we have around 10 works to inaugurate including the Coral Highway, which is scheduled for launch on August 8."
Quoted by listin.dom.do, the Public Works Minister also announced ribbon cuttings for major bridges at the towns of Nisibón, Baitoa and Bonao.
He said very few works which Fernandez pledged would remain unfinished, noting that in the five years as head of Public Works the government has spent around RD$120 billion to build over 3,000 works."Starting tomorrow the president is going to be inaugurating works almost every day until August 15."

I wonder what other major works he will start apart from the Coral Highway which has over extended the allotted budget and alotted time many times over . From what I saw two weeks ago the existing bridge over the River Chavon is being replaced by two bridges which are almost complete , but I can see absolutely no new work to detour La Romana and of course the detour around san Pedro is a death trap , ,,one lane in each direction each lane used by tractors with sugar cane and the enormous trucks and lined by cattle with no fences , It will be years before the entire project is completed .
Luckily we still have a relatively low sovereign debt , especially for a developing country that needs much work ..all that has been ignored in the past administrations

All that will happen is that the existing debt will be rolled over or part paid off .little by little ,Danilo will decide , after taking advice from his central banker , if the current sovereign debt is at a level where more projects can be commenced or not ,,,he has already hinted that he has a social agenda ahead of more infrastructure
