MADRID. - President Leonel Fernandez arrived in Madrid Monday for a private visit of three day, and includes a meeting with Spanish prime minister Mariano Rajoy in the Palace of Moncloa Tuesday, Efe reports citing Dominican diplomatic sources.

He’ll also meet separately with former Spanish leaders today, and attend a luncheon hosted by Spain’s Industry, Energy and Tourism minister José Manuel Soria on Tuesday.

The visit to Madrid will end Wednesday when he’ll continue his European tour, which includes Italy, France and European Union institutions in Belgium.

"Leonel Fernández arrived in Madrid for a three-day private visit"

If it’s a PRIVATE VISIT are the Dominican Taxpayers paying for it?

Or is he going to visit his Narco Partner incarcerated Drug Lord Arturo Del Tiempo Marquez and doesn’t want the press tagging along?

There is Cesar Medina (no relation to DM) leading the pack (part time DR ambassador to Spain) of has beens and future unemployed, including himself. No wonder he didn't attend the "presidential luncheon" for important voices in the news media, he was taking care of the "reception" for his boss.
It is about time all these improvised so called "diplomats" are shown the exit door, and some real and dedicated diplomacy professionals represent our country abroad, mainly focused on generating investments and new business opportunities for the DR.

Am sure he is after some more credit to finish his METRO .otherwise why would he be visiting the EU at BRUSSEL?I can see SPAIN's minister of INDUSTRY,TOURISM & ENERGY,since he needs all three .Italy & Spain can't help him since they are both asking for a bail out from BRUSSEL.

With little over a month left in office, Leonel should be focusing on passing the presidential powers to Danilo and handling internal matters rather then having these trips... if they are indeed necessary, simply have them in the Agenda for Danilo to complete.. I see this as a last hurrah vacation on the tax-payer's expense.

The problem is the long 3 month period between the elections in May 20Th and the official turnover of the government in August 16 TH, that is 3 months.
This provision has to be changed in the future, as losing and "lame duck" administrations take advantage of the interim period to travel and have a good time. Hipoloco did it when he lost in 2004 and took many leisure trips abroad on tax payers money.

Leonel got a excellent job in public international relationship. Since Balaguer and PRD government, we've been a small island giving the back to the world.

Through international development agencies, international investment and relationship, international cooperation, etc we can achieve great thing for the benefit of our people..

Leonel, as always is a great visionary, but some very stupid people in this post dont see it...The longest that they can see , is how to sembrar yuca in Gurabo...

Thanks Leonel, good riddance...

Is this a 3 days private visit to Spain with all those moochers at DR's tax payers paid expense?

just to see public officials & to have a "FREE LUNCH" to be hosted by the Minister JOSE

MANUEL SORIA of ENERGY,TOURISM,INDUSTRY and the Prime Minister. How private is it when

he brings this entire cabinet ?The Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy is up to his neck trying

his best to save Spain from an Economic Collaps and so Is Italy's to put up with these bunch of

idiots.Spain's main source of income is tourism .How are they going to help a competitor ? How

are they going to help when 25% of the Spanish working force are unemployed due to lack of

Industry? The only way they can help is by selling and installing DR solar and wind power

now that the US$500 million bonds was approved by the DR congress
