Santo Domingo.- Central banker Hector Valdez Albizu has been in Washington since Monday to start talks leading to a new agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and as part of the 11th Annual Meeting of the Central American Region and Dominican Republic, to be held in the country later this month.

According to sources quoted by listin.com.do Valdez’s visit also aims to bolster relations with the IMF and create the conditions for Danilo Medina’s incoming administration to start negotiations for a new pact once in office.

According to the source Valdez met with Paulo Nogueira Batista, IMF managing director, and officials of the Western Hemisphere Department. "The goal of these meetings is to strengthen the country's relations with the agency, seeking an approach that will create the conditions for the government presided be Danilo Medina to begin a process of negotiation for the conclusion of a new deal after his inauguration."

The Dominican government signed a Stand-by type agreement with the IMF in late 2009 for a period of 28 months, for $438 million in Special Drawing Rights, the special reserve asset that includes the U.S. dollar, Japanese yen, the euro and the pound sterling, but it was discontinue on March 8.

"aims to bolster relations with the IMF" spin doctor speach meaning we beg you to extend our payback time and to lower our interest rates. What he should be telling the IMF of the austerity measures the country is taking to offset its debt.

Danilo also better pave the wave for the EDUCATION the Public is Demanding!

Finally the Dominican People are waking up!

In a new survey done in June, EDUCATION is seen as the Top Priority, the USELESS METRO is not even on the Public’ Radar!

“Education, cost of living, unemployment and crime are priorities for Medina”

They also are hanging the albatross of CORRUPTION around the neck of a Lie-onel’s administration as it Should be!

“However, the perception of corruption remains very high in the management of President Fernandez. The 64.3% understood that corruption is much a 26.9% believe it little and a 6.8% has the belief that there is no corruption”

Read the rest at:

Sin embargo la percepción de la corrupción sigue muy alta en la gestión del presidente Fernández. El 64.3% entiende que la corrupción es mucha, un 26.9% la cree poca y un 6.8% tiene la creencia de que no hay ninguna corrupción.

There is one thing for certain ...our central bankhas done a wonderful job over the past 5 or 6 years and to have such strong growth and to keep inflation to a reasonable level at the same time has beenvery good ,,With a debt now only 30% of GDP and so many new projects completed or almost completed , when the rest of the world has been in dreadful trouble, we have been doing well .Thank you for a job well done

Agreed about the macroeconomic stability. However, I would love to see investments as a percentage of GDP go up to 25-30%. We are somewhere at 15%. Much TOO low for our requirements. And this IS a Latin American curse that needs urgent correction by elites, or instability will come. The Joseans of Latin societies will take their revenge against all.

As to Josean's ALWAYS negativity laced comments: More BS.
